ntl - 1m broadband for existing customers -

hi all

not sure if this is in the right place but i saw a story in the guardian this week (link here)
http://money.guardian.co.uk/phones/story/0,13283,1534329,00.html

`Upgrades to the latest offers are either never made or not clear, say the accusers. They only win a good deal if they threaten to leave.

Ntl denies the charges. It insists customers are made aware of broadband upgrades in particular.

But the company still has more than 200,000 people paying the old rates for the old service out of the 300,000 who signed up.

.....

When ntl launched a much faster 1Mb service he suggested he be upgraded to the new speed - which they agreed to.

When the company dropped the price to £9.99 for new customers, he was back on the phone to complain. He is now paying the lower price.

...`

anyway - i phoned up and easily upped my broadband speed, but was unable to get them to drop the price, so am now looking at moving over to sky anyway!

Willow : I knew it. I knew it. Well, not in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn`t know

I guess there`s bugger-all that I, a customer of about 4 months can do to get a cheaper/ faster service? £18 for a megabyte, no special deals either when I signed up... bah!

I rang customer services this morning, and got my £17.99 1mb
charge reduce to the £9.99, but she said only for 6 months, that
was the offer.

Still better than nothing, and if there is an increase after the 6 months,
there will have to be another call to customer services.

I thought about the upgrade, but it`s not worth it. The 1M service is capped at 3GB per month. This would last about 2 days in my house.

I would have left NTL Long ago if my number was not used for business. Most of my friends on ADSL have much better download speeds (4M uncapped) + much better upload speeds. The upload speed on NTL is not much better than a modem, if you play online games or need to transfer large files forget it.

All in all a poor product at whatever price.

A friend of mine has a 4M uncapped service, for the same price as BT (so he left BT), But I have noticed that Bulldog (bulldogbroadband.com), Have several offers Including uncapped 8M Broadband.

In IMHO NTL seems to be playing catchup with the ADSL based services.

My nipper brought home a flyer from NTL offering 1meg for £9.99 pm for 12 months. No limits indicated, free install, but leased modem.

It`s a promotion that was going on in some infant schools, so dig out all the stuff that you binned from your kid`s school bags!

Btw, when I called, they didn`t check whether my children went to school, in fact they didn`t ask about kids at all..
