I know of four ( one is called Donnay shop but exactly the same stock and prices ) of their stores within 30 miles of me in S. Wales so they most probably are nationwide.

I have also heard that one of them is closing so I might pop in to see what`s on offer but I hope it`s just the one store as they always seem to have a sale on with discounts of upto 70% :/ okay so the RRP is inflated but the end price is still low so if the prices have dropped again the prices should be very good.

Sports Soccer - Ditto that in Exeter, but thats a situation thats been going on for the last 2 years at least.

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

As far as I`m aware this time they`re rebranding and changing their name (to Sports World or something I think it was). So they`re kind of closing down but, ermmm, not really :/

The store at Lakeside must be closing (for good) because 1) some of the prices must be below cost price (ie: Named tops for £2). and 2) some of the staff were talking about going to new jobs elsewhere.

Whatever the "genuine-ness" of the sale , its definately worth a look.

Sports and soccer are not closing down they are using it as a way of getting rid of stock. They own many brands like Dunlop, Donnay etc and are not selling below cost as they are the manufacturer and there is no middle man.

Sports goods have for years had a mark up of 250% on the cost to the shop for example a squash racket cost £30 from the supplier but shops will sell it at £105 - so when sports and soccer sell it at 70% off they sell it at £35 and still make a profit and you think you are getting a bargain!

Surely you are actually getting bargain (as opposed to thinking you got a bargain) as the same goods would cost over 3 times more at another store.

But maybe i`m just being pedantic ;) ;)

I went in to one in Nottingham last week and bought some Diadora Sports Sandals for £5 so am very pleased.

I suppose if you were mad enough to pay the inflated price then it would be a bargain.

Most people are driven to buy when seeing they have saved 70%

I agree if you pick the right iems you can get something at a very reasonable price.

It is all about convincing you to buy their goods, just take the RRP with a barrow load of salt! :)

They`re closing down in Eastbourne as well and they do have a good sale on..they do this about every six months and re-open as something else with the same staff and everything else! Good sale tho (even if the RRPs are overinflated)

Was in the Hull branch today, windows are whitewashed and it clearly states closing down sale. As I was sceptitical that a shop that was closing down would have bothered to have special labels printed etc(look at the packs of socks, you`ll find the 70% off labels are under the actual cellowrap!) I asked one of the sales people if the sale was a gimmick or for real.

After first saying that he/she didn`t know they added that they had only been told to put all the goods(mostly) on offer. After a bit of nagging though they did admit they`re not closing for good......
