for only 29.99 it doesn`t matter if its crap. thats a good deal, I wonder how they can make these phones so cheaply.

The answer is they don`t make them that cheap. On some phones the operators may subsidise part of the cost in order to encourage people to buy phones locked to their network. If these people make a load of calls then the operator will easliy make their money back and most people don`t change their operators that frequently so they would stay with them for a while.
