This is taken from the Trading standards home page

Misleading Prices Regulations - the law does not control the amount a trader charges for goods, but you are entitled to expect the price of goods to be accurately displayed in a shop, catalogue, or advert. If goods are incorrectly priced you cannot force the trader to supply them to you, but you should report the matter to your local Trading Standards Department for investigation.

Report them to your local trading standards offic via email etc

Quite frankly I`ve washed my hands of them.

Amazingly they replied to my e-mail complaining about the way they`d handled the situation, and about how their reputation had been sullied on forums such as this. I also asked that they delete my personal details within seven days.

They have carried out my request within 24 hours, so the matter is closed as far as I`m concerned.

The amount of pricing errors on websites that don`t get honoured far outweigh those that do, and we shouldn`t be too upset if errors that are very clearly a cock up don`t work to their advantage.

Trading Standards are quite correct in what they say - even if you found a TV with a 5p price tag on it, the retailer is not legally obliged to sell it to you at that price. Obviously in terms of customer service (and particularly for bigger companies - hello Tesco) it would be nice if every boo-boo was honoured.

Recently, the Game website made an error on Road Trip (£5.99 instead of £15.99) but they won themselves a lot of new customers just by the simple fact that they honoured their error. Similarly, dabs.com marked up a Samsung laser printer for 1p on their site (it was part of a package, but was able to be bought singly too), again a price they honoured. These are the retailers you know you`ll go back to, because they are speculating to accumulate.

For outfits like Simply Games, the next step is easy. Take the fact they`re not honouring the deal on the chin and walk away. That`s my advice - no point losing sleep over it.

I received this from Simplygames this morning after threatening them with Trading Standards...

Good morning Mr Sconebum,

Unfortunately due to the massive demands for this product we found it
financially unviable to honour the price. We did however decide to change
the price to £26.99 which is our cost price and a lot cheaper than our
competition.

I do apologise for the upset this has caused you but we do reserve the
rights to supply goods for any reason, this is clearly stated on our site.

Yours

Luke Smith
