Page 1 of PC WORLD VERBATIM DVD+(or -) R discs - 50 for £19.99

Not that I would normally recommend blank recordable discs to be purchased from PC World but they have an offer on for the Verbatim 8x DVD+R (or -) with advanced AZO technology (whateverthat is!) for £19.99 - saving £10 - for 50 discs. They are marked up at £29.99 - but scan through at £19.99.

I know the long debate about which discs are best and the best dyes etc etc but I have gone back to Verbatim from others as I have never had any trouble with them either writing to them or my av equipment reading them.

A Good price for PC World but still expensive. There`s far cheaper stores i.e svp etc.

DVD+R 4 speed Hi Space ones - 100 for under £20 at Amazon. Using them on my Philips DVD610 Recorder and record fine with no problems (touch wood). Can`t grumble at 20p - done about 15 recordings without a coaster.

Kalal - Are they cheaper at SVP? How much are they there including delivery? :/ I could only find the 16x verbatim for £24.99 plus £5 delivery!

It is a good price for branded discs, let alone for PC World. Yes, people will compare it with unbranded discs in SVP and other places but that`s comparing apples with oranges. However, I can get similar quality DVDs (by Imation) for £8 for 25 at the Simply Computers shop.

kingkev - Correction, Pc World actually match svp for once. svp have them at the same price. I must of been in shock, (:¦ i`m not use to pc world having a bargain!

Thing is with "cheap" discs it`s not just the number of coasters produced as some discs are unreadable after a period of time never mind how well they have been looked after.

I sometimes used to buy cheap CD-R blanks for copying my CD`s to use in the car but I have had to re copy quite a few of them as they either seemed to be completely blank or the silver writing layer has flaked off them while none of the Memorex , Hewlett Packard or Sony discs burned before or around the same time and kept in the same wallet have been affected.

I`ve had expensive discs fail on me more often than I`ve had cheap ones fail. I used to buy the Kodak Ultra CD-s direct from Kodak while they were still making them. Out of around 700 discs I purchased, around 60% have developed a creeping rot which starts on the outer part of the disc and works it`s way to the middle. It`s cerainly not a storage problem, as I`ve sent many of these discs to friends who`ve told me it`s happening to the discs i`ve sent them

On the other hand, I`ve got boxes of el cheapo no name mirror discs that I`ve copied my bought CD`s onto for using in the CD changer in the car- they take loads of abuse-freezing cold to boiling hot temperatures, getting slung into cardboard boxes when I don`t want them in the changerm and they still play perfectly years later when I drag them out again.

I suppose choosing a disc is like buying anything else - you decide what suits and you run with it. I have used Imation and others but my experience shows you get what you pay for. But its horses for courses. So I will stick with verbatim - and good luck to others who are happy using other makes.

PC World do occasionally have good deals - but I must admit their sales force don`t inspire confidence - but I suppose that might be a topic for another thread!
