LG 44" dlp tv-£1499 at currys
Read a lot on this platform about the 50" sagem at comet-Anyone had experience of this tv-looks a bargain with dlp :/
RE: LG 44" dlp tv-£1499 at currys
It`s been £1499 for about 4 months at both Currys and Comet.
Don`t ask `cause I can`t really answer, but pay the extra £500 and get either the Sagem or the Toshiba (Sagem: 50", Tosh 46")

In the latest `Digital Home` magazine the winner of the "Top 10 Plasma`s in the UK" was the Hitachi Platara 42PD5300. You can get one of these for £2k Best price from DealTime.co.uk
Extract from the Digital Home article:

In the greatest upset since Goliath said "he wont hit me from there with that", the Hitachi leaps ahead of the Pioneer and Philips. It betters neither in their primary attributes but the Platara offers a slice of the best of the both at a far more appealing price. A bargain? You bet

The Hitachi uses the Fujitsu AliS panel and is very good. About the best for terestrial tv I have come across.
Cue Paull :p
All the best,
The 42%er.
It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

My original post was seeking a review on the tv as i read on this forum earlier an opinion that digital light processing(dlp) rear projection tvs were the future as opposed to lcd/plasma.The only dlps below £2k i have tracked down are the LG,sagem and the tosh .I have now seen the LG at empiredirect.co.uk at £1265 delivered inc stand which is £700 less than the other two.Is is really worth £700 for the extra width/name
RE: LG 44" dlp tv-£1499 at currys
Yes I agree - I think the Hitachi / Pioneer are in a different league with regards to quality vs price. I would really like to get the quality of these units for the price you are willing to pay, but I believe we are 6 months off some of these units hitting that price point. The last 12 months have seen quite spectacular price drops and in 2005 and shop arround and you can get a Goodmans 42" for less than £1k.
I am sold on the Hitachi so will cruise www.dealtime.co.uk and www.kelkoo.co.uk until the price hits the £1500 mark.
Is DLP - RP better then CRT?

Not sure that it`s fair to compare the two (as a 44" CRT would probably need a forklift to get it in the house)
But you can read about DLP here: http://www.dlp.com/
Obviously some of what it says is propoganda/sales pitch and some DLP sets are going to be a lot better than others.
Overall I think DLP is a step forward (as it doesn`t have problems with screen burn etc) But there`s still the hassle/cost of having to replace the bulb every few years.
RE: LG 44" dlp tv-£1499 at currys
As many as I can reply to:
Mark, yes I know track records....`nuff said?
Others:
DLP v RPTV v CRT: DLP is High Def ready, higher resolution screens and impossible to screen burn.
RPTV is cheaper and similar sized, poorer quality picture, has convergence issues and can screen burn.
CRT doesn`t have the immediate convergence issues but will about 10 to 15 years down the line if your set lasts that long.
DLP requires a new "lamp" (yep...it`s a bulb! Lol) periodically, estimated at around 3 to 5 years normal use (but I haven`t seen a failed bulb in store yet, and they run 12 hours a day!)
There is propaganda on all screen types on all manufacturer sites, but DLP really is superb when up n running correctly (nip into a Comet and look at the Sagem on the DLP hard drive running hi-Def demos!)
This wouldn`t be simply paying £700 for a name or size, but also for an increased amount of connections, increased screen resolution, increased screen size, increased audio quality, and newer DLP technology.
The LG uses the (I think) first edition DLP chip, the Sagem is 2nd Generation and the Toshiba is now on the third.
I`d have to dig out all my training materials to get more in depth, but if it was *really* required..... ;)
