this player beats the ipod by miles:

sony:110g
ipod:159g

sony: 62.1x89.0x13.8mm
ipod:103.5 x 61.8 x 14.6 mm

sony: 30 hours playtime!
ipod: 10 hours

you get my drift!

the sony also has features like the `g sensor` which protects it if you drop it or knock it about, also it has a 25 minute anti skip!

Not sure about this but, with the Sony players dont you have to convert all your Mp3`s to the ATRAC3 format?

Probably worth checking out before you buy - 13000 tracks is a lot of converting to do

not any more, there is a flood of firmware updates for the NW1 and Pocket Vaio and the NW3 plays MP3 out of the box!

The Pocket Vaio update was released yesterday, 20+ hours playback (beat that IPOD!) and superb colour screen and sound quality!

SonicStage is poor compared to Itunes i will conceed that!

the nw1 is deffo the old model, the nw3 will play mp3`s out of the box + atrac3 etc, the nw3 also acts like an external hard drive, wheras (sp) the nw1 needs to go through sonic stage :( be aware, you can get the nw3 for £220 delivered free, from amazon :)

i doubt it very much, but i think musicmatch jukebox is compatable (but don`t quote me on that)

I know its a bit like how long is a bit of string (and bit rate of course) but approx how many cd albums can you cram onto a 20 gb and does it make any difference if its wav or mp3? In other words am i really better off getting a 30 gb?

wav is MUCH bigger than mp3 so forget that. at mp3 (you cant notice the difference) a cd quality album is normaly 50-80mb. that means at most u`ll get about 400 albums onto a 20gb. the sony player (nw - hd1) uses atrac3 which means u can put loads more on but i think it takes a few seconds to convert each album. so unless you have 400 albums its not worth getting a 30 gb.

The new Sony NW-HD3 looks absolutely superb, and that is from a big iPod fan.

I like the colours, the display, and the newly added MP3 support, and just look at that 30 hour battery life.

Ask Electronics have some of the colours in at £234, anyone find any better.
