Been looking at this camera myself for my partner`s father and you can get it from Dixons for cheaper.
Off the top of my head, it`s a little more than £600 - but DCBYAW will give you 7.5% discount ("You At Work" employee benefits scheme) and with teh £100 Canon cashback it comes out at around the £470-£480 mark.

Very nice little camera, picked one up when I was out in the states earlier in the year. Image quality is amazing, you can (and I do) print the pictures at A3 and it is photo quality.
At this price it is a bargain, buy one!

I am very interested to. £599 from Amazon and the Canon cashback = £499 with Amazon`s usual great service. Only downside I see is that you can`t use the LCD as viewfinder. this seems a bit stupid as this is the great thing about digicams. But £500 for a camera is still a wedge. Really just thinking of it for pictures of our baby boy. Also you know damn well these are gonna be £250 by next christmas!

That`s the thing isn`t it. I doubt many people would have considered spending £500 on a 35mm SLR, but digital.....
Not sure that they`ll be THAT cheap by next Christmas - I`d expect the lenses to remain at a certain price level, plus there`s more mechanical stuff in an SLR that means there`s more "fixed" type costs, if you see what I mean. Maybe they`ll drop to the £400 range (without cashback) - but think how many pictures you`d have missed by then...
I guess the question is though, do you (or I) need such a well specced camera? I`m kind of torn between wanting a small, pockeable camera that will give decent images, and going back to my photographic roots with an SLR. Though I`ll always keep my battered old Leica for the ultimate in manual control and "proper" photography...
