Just been in asda in perth they have a mini/portable (no screen) dvd player for £29.99 its top loading and has all the usual connections plus built in dd decoder, they also have a freeview box with twin scarts for £39.99

This would be the Durabrand DVD 1000. It`s very small and light but doesn`t feel the most robust player I`ve ever seen.
I`ve looked on the web but there`s practically no info about it. Also there seems to be no region hack (see this thread).
On the other hand Woolies (link) have knocked £5 off the Compacks 800 bringing it down to the same price as the Durabrand.
There`s a couple of hacks for the Compacks here. And you can download the manual from the website
