Thanks a useful spot looks exactly what I need to update my HI-Fi....... :)

Why?

8 Years old\Pro logic
No one uses the radio on it.....
Wife has taken to playing CD`s from the DVD
Manual volume control on (shaft encoder) is next to useless
Wife & kids play tapes on various cassette players about the house...
Old speakers have been kicked around by the kids & look in sorry state

Unless anyone has a better alternative (does not equate to cheaper).

The Mico one they had at Sainsburys recently for £90 is excellent, looks great, sounds great, multi-region out of the box, plays plus & minus discs - I would say easily on a par with my Hitachi one that should cost twice as much (I bought the Mico one for my parents)
In actual fact, I kept the Mico subwoofer for myself as it looks a much better quality than the Hitachi.

there is a £79.99 LG one in woolies that includes a dvd player, looks a decent model to me, was £150 in most online shops when i looked a week ago. Might be worth a look.

I got an e-bench dvd player for 29 quid from lidl about 6 months ago, and although it is good for the money, it isn`t the best at decoding sound or playing tricky formats... i think they skimped on the processing power.

I have a Mico R311 with 5.1output, dont really need yet another player, just want to cut down the redundant facilities of a Hi-Fi to be left with speakers & amp for Home Cinema\DVD player (wife as stated can use the player for CD`s).

Mico R311, 2 CH 400`s, PS2, PC DVD & my MP Man (1.2 DVD players per family member or 1 each if we include the rabbit). ;)

Does anyone know if it`s got the 5.1 decoder built in or do you need a 5.1-equiped DVD player to get the full effect?

I would surmise you need a 5.1 enabled player, this is just a amp/speaker package.

Would a scart to 6 phone connector work? My brother is going to get one, he has a Compaks DVD player. If the system comes with bog standard cables they will be good enough for him.

Yep, my bro couldn`t get one. Obviously a ploy to get people in the shops. Bit of a p1ss take really.
