dont know if anybody has already picked up on this yet,but a lot of retailers inc.argos are doing this for 198.00 down from 350.00 its a freeview box/combined hardrive with dual tuners so can record one channel while watching another! has 20gig drive to store up to 10hrs recording time. sounds interesting! anybody share any opinions or info,or perhaps someone already has one? :)

I saw this and was quite tempted...although I wondered whether the hard drive could be replaced, for example putting in a 120GB (or more) drive by simply imaging the existing drive (providing it`s a known format - which I assume it is) and then enlarging the partition to fill up the empty space. You could then presumable store tons on it
Also - wonder what format the recorded stuff is in. I would assume it`s MPEG2 (or similar)
I haven`t found anything technical about it on other websites

Agreed, 20GB is way too small a hard drive.
Have a look at both this and the Sky+ box and guess who makes that and then wonder why the Sky+ box can do double the hours of recording. It`s either got a bigger drive or poorer compression. I`d go for the bigger drive so it might be worth waiting on Pace upgrading the hard drive in their consumer box.
...and it looks as if MPEG2 is indeed the format used.

I have had a Pace Twin since launch back in May. Very good, although a few bugs from time to time. Nothing that a power cycle has not fixed :-) Besides the latest Sky+ has bugs too !
At less than £200 it can`t be beaten It records the digital channel in raw format to the 20MB hard drive, which gives 10 hours TV recording (more time if radio). Two tuners means you can easily record one Freeview channel whilst watching another Freeview channel, or indeed watching an existing recording.
Make sure you don`t miss the next scheduled software update, it fixes a number of issues that the units held in retail store`s stock might have, e.g. soft picture, text, recording in standby, various rewind/wind glitches.
I have one plugged into a plasma TV and the picture and sound quality is superb. Recordings are indestinguishabel from live transmissions.
Do a search on these two forums to read 100s of posts on the Pace Twin... "warts and all !"
