RE: Cheap 4X DVD-R Media
seems good to me. Ordered some to test them on my sony writer. Are Novatech good for delivery times? Cheers for the spot...
Hey there,
got a sony dvd writer as well, but having a few compatibility problems with media. What kind do you suggest? (only MirrorX works so far...)

RE: Cheap 4X DVD-R Media
well the only media iv ever had problems with is mirror media so thats a bit strange. If you want speed and reliability i would go for the 4x Ritek Branded (-) media as iv never had a single coaster. Im going to try the discs in this thread purely because of the price as ritek media is about 90p a disc. I have the Sony DWu10a.
I have had the sony DWU-10A for awhile and its great for data backups. I`ve had mixed results with DVD backups. As for the media, I just use Data write +R discs (always write at x2).
Bought some cheap -R discs (burn star) and they are crap. 2 toast in 2.
BTW you can upgrade the 10A to a retail 500A , just remember you WILL invalidate your warranty if you do.

Hi All,
I`ve also got a Sony drive, DRU-500AX, I upgraded to the 2.0g firmware and it started making coasters with Bulkpaq orange and Datawrite yellow media so I went back to the 2.0f firmware. I`m also having problems getting the drive to write at 4X on cheap media, after seaching the Net I came across this....

Going to give it a try the next time I do a "movie backup"!
Remember flashing your drive with unofficial firmware will invalidate your warranty and could kill your drive.
