Page 1 of ANYONE GET ALDI BARGAINS
Bargain Buckets Forum
Hello there,
Aldi have once again come through with their Medion computer gear. Today they were selling a wireless keyboard & mouse for £20 and a PCI tv tuner card. I brought the keyboard and mouse which works a treat but i was wondering if anyone else got the Tv Tuner Card and is it any good to capture stuff from TV???
ermmm yup i got the tv card, havent looked at it yet though, setting up this weekend, will post back then!

RE: ANYONE GET ALDI BARGAINS
How much was the tv card?
£29.99 mate. Apparently(?) it had a Philips chip set on which ALDI describe (not literally) as the Puppies Pebbles in it`s own sphere.
No use to me as I use a laptop but for what it is it looks cheap enough (I think)
HTH...F...
What type of keyboard layout is the wireless keyboard and will it work with any PC? Silly question - can you buy off the net or do you have to get it from the shop?
Cheers

Niteowl, you can only get it from the shop. I went down at 9am yesterday when the goodies went on sale, and loads of people were buying the keyboard and mouse set - good job they had a reasonable amount of stock, as opposed to the 3 PC`s they typically get in when they are running those deals!
The keyboard and mouse set is a top purchase for £20. I`ve been on the lookout for a decent wireless keyboard for ages, and it seems you can either get a shoddy one for £15-20, or a complex beast for £35-40. To find a pretty decent keyboard and mouse for £20 is a steal. Plus it`s RF not IR, so you don`t even have to have the receiver unit on the desk top! The build quality isn`t quite on a par with MS or Logitech gear, but it`s equal to most OEM gear and for £20 it`s great.
The only issue I have found with it so far is that the mouse probably won`t work with my old AT motherboard. Being a modern piece of kit, it has PS/2 connectors for the keyboard and mouse cables. Fine if you don`t live in the dark ages like me, but my AT machine has the old-style huge keyboard connector and a 9-pin COM port serial mouse connector. The keyboard works fine through an adaptor, but unfortunately I think the mouse is not compatible with serial ports, so it won`t work even with an adaptor. (I`m going to contact Medion to confirm this is the case, but I`m pretty sure it is.)
This isn`t a big deal for me since I already have a high quality USB optical mouse, and it`s actually the wireless keyboard that I wanted. The mouse was just a bonus. Looks like I`ll have to wait until I upgrade my PC before I can use it!
So, if you`ve got a modern ATX PC with PS/2 connectors, rush out and buy the set, best wireless set I`ve seen for a low price. If you`ve got no PS/2 connectors, be aware that you might not be able to use the mouse - but it`s still a fine wireless keyboard for £20.
EDIT: Oops, forgot to mention it`s your standard keyboard layout with an extra 19 programmable "hot keys" at the top to do thngs like internet functions, multimedia functions, volume, application launching etc.

Got one of the TV cards. I`ll fit it at the weekend, but I have taken it out of the box and had a look. Seems quite good for what I want. Includes FM radio reception and teletext. The software allows timeshift recording.
It comes with an FM ariel, and external sound card connector. It has the option of connecting to the sound card internally, but doesn`t include the connectors for that so you would need to buy them seperately.
There were about 30 people outside the shop we got it from. People were after the TV cards and the wireless keyboard, but the real quest was to get one of the bouncy castles. Shop had about 20 of the TV cards in.
cheers Pistol. Now all I need to know is where my nearest one is in W. Sussex.
