whoa, there`s a £50 price diff between those dvd burners!
whats the diff between DVD+R and DVD-R ? then theres DVDWR or whatever.
all i wanna know is which format is the best. and which will play on my dvd player - Yelo 800.
The DVD media`s getting cheaper also isn`t it?

I`m glad I`m not the only one who finds the whole thing totally confusing! Perhaps clayts could organise a faq on dvd burners, or a section in articles? It would be nice to know which format you have to use to remain compatible with existing hardware, and what sort of spec PC you`re going to need to burn a dvd. Also, what software is good, what happens if you try to backup a dvd that`s over 4.7Gb, what limitations there are (if any) ....... can anyone help KaTz and myself out? TIA

DVD-R has been around a lot longer than DVD+R.

DVD-R discs are cheaper ( from about 50p each)

DVD+R is surposed to be more compatable with older DVD players but most new ones play DVD-R fine.

DVD+R was designed by Philips and is not reconsised by the DVD consortium as an official DVD standard. May not last?

4.7GB limit - With most films over 7GB you either split the film on to 2 discs or re-convert the whole film to fit on 1 DVD. ( depending on film length the quality it between SVCD and DVD.
