Best price for GPS system?

I just missed out on Aldi`s £250 special - seemed like a good deal to me. I know Toys R Us are selling them out at £300, but are out of stock anyway - anyone know of any other good deals on these things? As long as it comes with a car kit and doubles up as a pocket pc, I`m not too fussed on the actual specs.

For what it`s worth, I bought a Medion player from Toys R Us about 2 years ago, when they had them on special for around £100, which was an unheard of bargain back then, especially with the features the machine boasted. That machine is still going strong, still gives a perfectly acceptable picture, and has been a damn site more reliable than my mothers Onkyo set costing nearly 5 times as much. If I`d have had my time again, and had the choice between the Medion and a £500 Onkyo for sale at £100, I`d have gone for the Onkyo (who wouldn`t?) but I`ll tell you something - the el cheapo Medion has been a better, more reliable player which owes us nothing - so in that fantasy about both machines costing the same, which would have been the better bargain?

One more point about the cheap players - it is thanks to these that the big name brands have been forced to drop their prices. Would they have had to do this if the cheap players were obviously inferior? I don`t think so! After all, you didn`t see Mercedes dropping their prices to be more competitive with Skoda, did you?

Personally, I`m more than happy to get a player for £40, with no idea of the quality - you might get a bargain, you might get a duffer, but what`s £40 these days? And with a 12 month warranty, if anything goes wrong, you just take it back and get it replaced - £40? That`s less than 11p a day during your warranty period - compare that to the cost of going to the flicks!

Momitsu 5.1 DVD Player for £44 (plus p&p)

I don`t know anything about this machine, but it seems pretty standard fare for budget machines - no VCD or SVCD, but everything else (including MP3). Also a link back to here on multiregion and macro disable.

RE: DVD burner

I`m glad I`m not the only one who finds the whole thing totally confusing! Perhaps clayts could organise a faq on dvd burners, or a section in articles? It would be nice to know which format you have to use to remain compatible with existing hardware, and what sort of spec PC you`re going to need to burn a dvd. Also, what software is good, what happens if you try to backup a dvd that`s over 4.7Gb, what limitations there are (if any) ....... can anyone help KaTz and myself out? TIA

If you go to the new releases section on dvd.co.uk, they have volumes 1,2,3 and 4 of Please Sir! at £9.49 each, but then the same £9.49 price on the box set! Better be quick though, before it gets spotted!

RE: Lord of the Rings- 25% off

I managed to pick up LOTR DVD for a tenner from a car boot this weekend - I dunno where in the world it came from, it is NSTC format, but not region encoded. I figured I`d probably watch it, let the rest of the immediate family watch it, then sell it on eBay for a bundle and buy the R2 PAL disk when it is released :)

For anyone that wants to get their hands on LOTR, though, be aware there are some disks doing the rounds - and I don`t think anyone can get their hands on one cheaper than that!

RF modulation help needed with Medion MD4310

Does anyone know how I can change the RF modulation on this unit, as I currently suffer with co-channel intereference with a terrestrial signal. There is no adjustment screw on the rear of the unit, so I assume it is done electronically, but there is no mention of how to do it in the manual, and an email to Medion themselves got no results (but then they prolly know as much about the machine as I do lol) It has been suggested to me that this is probably in a service menu hidden away somewhere - anyone know how to access it? Any help would be very much appreciated.
