Don`t know how widespread it is but my mum and dad bought on of these last night from Tesco for £60!! The Tesco by where I work has them for £85.. Anyway I burned the new rom file (link from this site) to disk, put it in and now it plays vcd`s and svcd`s too. Hidden menu also now has macrovision `off` option which seems to interest a lot of people for some reason. Now plays all regions too inc. RCE.
This can`t be far off cheapest multi-region vcd, svcd, mp3, macro-disabled player around!! In fairness, picture seemed fine too!

So you`ve got it playing VCD, SVCD, DVD multiregion and RCE.
Any luck with homemade DVD-R`s?

Yeah plays all I mentioned (plus normal audio CD`s of course) but I don`t have any DVD-R`s to try.
