RE: Compacks DVD5000 does everything only £59.99 at Safeway

No problem Clayts.
What do you think of the machine ?
I don`t know if I should keep it or go for the Toshiba SD330, it`s £109 for the multi region version at Richer Sounds. I`m worried about getting it and finding that the picture quality is no better than the Compacks.

Thanks for any help
Derek

P.S I`ve also tried a mini-dvd in the Compacks and it played perfectly. It is easily the best budget player I have tried and I have tried a lot, but would I notice much difference with the Toshiba?

Just found this link it is identical to the Compacks model but for £149.95

RE: Compacks DVD5000 does everything only £59.99 at Safeway

I am not lucky enough to own a VCR that will tape anything.
I have tried many DVD players and had macrovision enabled on most of them. I also have a Cyberhome ADM512 which has macrovision enabled, I can turn macrovision off on this machine but it resets itself every time I turn it off, if I forget to do the macrovision hack I get the usual distorted picture.
You obviously don`t believe me but I can assure you that I can record any DVD using my Campacks player with no problems at all, my VCR is a Panasonic model about 1 year old.
I wish there was some way I could prove this to you.
Maybe there is different versions of the same player ? I`ll have a look at the details on the back of mine and post them it may shed some light on this.

I can guarantee that macrovision is definitely off on my machine. I have tested recording disney copy protected films onto vhs and they come out perfect. I don`t know if macrovision was enabled when I bought the player as I have only tried recording after doing the multi region hack this may have turned the macrovision off. I also tried the hack "press setup them 1 3 6 9 skip back 3 times and skip forward once" nothing appeared on the screen but this may have turned the macrovision off. SVCD and VCD play perfectly I`ve also tried an MP3/JPEG DVD and all tracks and pictures played perfectly.

I`ve just bought a Compacks DVD 5000 from safeway. After using the Region hack supplied on the Compacks website the machine plays everything the picture quality is very good. It ouputs PAL not PAL60 macrovision is off. It plays JPEG, MP3, DVD-R and DVD+R everything I`ve tried in it, and has progressive scan plus 5.1 outputs. It is also the thirteenth DVD player I have tried and it the one I`m keeping.

any more questions post below and I`ll try to answer

Derek

Toshiba SD330 PAL or PAL60

Does the Toshiba output NTSC disc to PAL or PAL60. I need to know as my TV does not like PAL60 or NTSC.

thanks for any help

Derek
