RE: Phillips model 957 and Blade DVD

I have a Phillips 711 and it does the same thing with Blade. I gave the disk to a friend with a Sony player and the disk works fine. So I would guess it is a problem with Phillips players.

I can jump out of the repeating sequence but pressing the next scene button repeatedly during the sequence, I can`t remember whether I need to do it in the warning or the Distributors screen. The jump does not happen immediately but when it gets to the end of the cycle it goes to the menu section.

This does annoy me every time I watch the disk but it is the only one I have had problems with so far.

Best of luck

Steve.

PS. Now I`ve got home and played with it, I have to keep pressing the button in the distributors screen (the bit with noise) and the button is described as `search forward / next chapter or track` in the manual.

RE: Surround from my Video

I`m not sure that you can get this amp to decode pro-logic, but this is something I am still trying to understand myself so I may be wrong.

Looking at the specs for amps some do DD, DTS and Pro-logic but the spec for the 5050 only says DD and DTS therefore I am assuming that it does not do Pro-logic for things such as video.

I may be wrong on this and all amps may do Pro-logic and the additional Pro-logic mentioned in the specification may mean Pro-logic 2.

RE: RE ; PHILIIPS 711 HOT DISCS

I have a Phillips 711 and the disk`s come out very hot from mine to. I was quite surprised by the heat when I first got the player but it does not seam to have damaged a disk yet.

The only problem I have had with the player so far is with the movie Blade, it insists on repeating the opening studio title sequence again and again (the bit before the menu) and I have to force it out of the loop at a certain point. The disk works fine on my friends Sony.

RE: Anyone Have a reason not to buy a Philips 711?

The firmware can be updated, but you are right it doesn`t seam to be available on the Phillips site, I do have bookmarks to sites that have the firmware but they are on my work computer.

Like you I have not found a bad word about the player, other than it’s just an average player with no extra bits like mp3 etc, but I just want DVD.

Thanks for looking

BTW its £175.07 at www.dabs.com

Anyone Have a reason not to buy a Philips 711?

Hi,

I`m looking to buy my first DVD player (I have Max £200 to spend), I am thinking off the Philips 711, as it is buy a major manufacturer, Firm ware upgradeable and Hackable for all regions.

All the Reviews I have seen say its an OK player but nothing special but before I take the plunge I thought I would just check if anyone had any horror stories etc or advice to pick a different player.

I would be most grateful for your opinions, as I don`t want to waste my money on a poor player.

Thanks

Steve
