RE: Scan 2000 DVD player problems please help

So it`s not just me then!

I bought mine in October last year and it has the same problem - you may have seen my message. I spoke to Scan TS today and they are organising a drop and pick for tomorrow.

I did hook mine up thru the video for a while due to a crap TV, but a simple remedy was to buy a 28" widescreen. Wahey!

I can`t really say Scan are that bad with their CS at all - just don`t phone them from a mobile ;-)

Check out the new forum anyhows, and you will find firmware upgrades there, if your replacement player ever needs it.

SC2000 - Firmware testing

Okay Okay. I`ve just spent the past 30 mins reading all the msgs from people with problems. I get the distinct impression that no real testing of these firmware upgrades ever takes place.

Surely If you fix something, you perform regression tests to make sure that it won`t impact on any other features of the software? It seems to me that one firmware version fixes one problem, but creates another, and nobody actually notices this when (if?) they test it. It should be fairly straighforward. There is a specification. You test that everything works as the spec says it should. If it doesn`t, you sort it out.

It`s a no win situation. I`ve been pretty happy with my SC2000, with the exception of the unplayable discs, and not accessing secret menus (see my previous message). Nelley, please tell whoever sends you the firmware updates to TEST them first!

I feel much better now. Off to watch a video...

RE: Scan SC2000 - Cannot play Se7en R2 (2 disc SE) or Final Destination R2

OK then. Spoke to Scan after AGES on hold. They said

change the units region to region 2 rather than ignore, if other r2 dvds are ok then the possibility is actually down to the disk itself.

This still did not work. I have even tried exchanging FD, but that did not work.

Who is on which firmware version and what issues do they cause? the last thing I want is the blue screen or pixelisation.
According to my machine, MAIN_NAV (firmware) is 00000150 - half the stuff in NiVZ guide did not appear on the screen and I couldn`t access half the menus! What`s going on? Do I have an archaic machine?

Scan SC2000 - Cannot play Se7en R2 (2 disc SE) or Final Destination R2

Does anybody else have the same problem? I get the main menu fine, but as soon as I try and play the movie, the whole picture becomes scrambled, and the sound gets all choppy. These are the only two movies I`ve seen (or not in this case) with this problem. The movies both work on my Creative Encore Dxr3. Otherwise, I am very happy with my player.
I shall be arranging a swap-out, but I`m interested to know if there is some sort of special encoding used on these films.
