RE: Does anyone know if the remote hacks for Samsung work on the new M205 or M405?

Just bought a Hitachi DVP515 which is based on these new Samsung players and it hacked no problem - same on screen menus as the old Hitachi/Samsung, so same hack.

Surround Speakers

A short while ago, after some stick from the wife, I got rid of my dolby prologic seperates and went for a new Tv with everything built in. I must admit I prefer the all-in-one setup now and would be reluctant to go back to seperate speakers/amp - even though I know it`s better.

My Tv is a Hitachi 32WF810 featuring a built in Dolby Digital and DTS decoder.
I am very impressed with sound quality (5x15w rms + 25w rms sub) overall, considering it`s all built in. The only problem is the supplied surround speakers, which rattle and distort like f**k. I have tried to improve things by replacing the speaker inside the surrounds with better quality car speakers - two way, 4 ohm (lower resistance), higher wattage. I`ve also used thicker cables. The tonal quality is better, but they still distort and rattle.

The speakers are mounted in the corners, 1" down from the ceiling.

Why am I having this problem? Is it because of low power output (although 2x 15w sounds very good, even at loud vol on sony micro hifi), or is it cos the surround spkr casings are s***e, or because they`re mounted in corners.

I`d love to be able to get sound quality as good from the back as the built in front speakers. If neccessary, I could get more power to the rears by 2 channel amp connected to the 5.1 outputs on the Tv, if this is the issue.

Whatever surround spkrs I considered, they would ideally have to fit nicely into the corners of the lounge without resorting to additional clumsy looking brackets. The wife would insist!

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

PAL or NTSC

Have a Hitachi 32WF810 Tv and Hitachi DVP515 Dvd player (based on the new Samsung 405).
I have hacked (usual Sammy hack) to make multi region. Plays R4 and R1 discs fine.
Dvd player has a PAL indicator on front display, but when playing Toy Story 1 or 2, the only region 1 discs I have so far, this is still lit - even though these discs are NTSC.
Although the Tv manual states when receiving NTSC signal, HUE/TINT can be adjusted, this isn`t possible.
Can anyone explain what`s happening? Thanks

RE: please help!!!!

Yes, the samsung DVDM-105.

The Hit 315 got a crap review, buy the the Hit 515 instead - available for £202.98 +£7.99 p+p from www.unbeatable.co.uk

RE: Black Diamond 32

Just demand your money back. These sets are s***e, and to link them with Mistsubishi, as Scottish Power does, is misleading to say the least.

They are no better than the cheap & nasty tvs sold by the supermarkets.

RE: Universal remote controls

LCD / named keys

Sony do one for around £100 - £120. I think it is not supplied by Sony UK, (import?) although it popularity is growing, it can be bought mail order from various hifi places and even Miller Brothers - have a look at web site: www.millerbros.co.uk

RE: Toshiba 28wd98b

I`ve Just bought the 32" version, (32WD98).

This is the `mutts nuts` . I think its fantastic and so do the guys at `What Video` magazine. Dolby Digital - built in, is its main feature, which still seems to be quite rare. The only thing missing is a split screen, which allows tv pic one side, text other side - a feature which is quite common on other sets in this price bracket.

Do you really want only 28", or is this the most you can afford?

I personnally find 28" widescreen too small - seems only on a par to a 24" convential set!

Both sets have been out about a year now, but I get the impression Toshiba has no plans to update these at the moment, whereas they are introducing new vcr models and a dvd - the 110.

High street shops sell for arround £1200 for 32", which was prev £1400. Internet might be arround £1000. Also bear in mind certain department stores will usually give a 5yr gtee for free!

I bought from home shopping mail order catalogue with a 10 % discount, in addition to my 10 % commision. The price worked out at £972 with free delivery direct from Tosh. I also had 50 weeks to pay - interest free!

Hope this helps.

RE: HELP PLEASE PIONEER 636 TOSHIBA32WD98B

You have the same tv as me.
The tv has a Dolby Digital decoder built in, and therefore will decode a Dolby Digital signal from almost any dvd player with either an optical or coax digital output. Forget about DTS, which I gather is just a slight variation of Dolby Digital anyway.

Tosh 32WD98 Tv - problems anyone?

Just bought the tv a few weeks ago and am having a couple of problems - can`t decide wether these are `faults` or just `characteristics` of a poorly designed tv.

1.
Every once in a while, when switching on the set, the sound is completely destorted. Changing channels cures it straight away?

2.
On teletext, using the page up or down buttons, sometimes the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th page only partly appears. What you get is only half or even a quarter of a page, and no fastext icons at the bottom. It can take 2 or 3 minutes for the full page to appear, even though the numbers at the top of the screen have stopped moving (indicating it has already found the page). I visited a retailer, who had the identical model on display, his did this too - coincidence? I have never come across such a problem on any other tv, even other toshiba`s.

3.
Playing back a videotape on a Tosh V829, I quite often get the `teletext id banner` appearing at the bottom of the screen every 5 or 10 minutes, which is most annoying. This video never did this with a Pana 29" or indeed my two Tosh portable tv`s.

Anyone got the 32WD98 or similar?

I think probs 2 and 3 are down to a cr*p text decoder.

Any views or comments are most welcome

Tosh SD100 - software settings

After reading info on this site, I noted the `zoom - 606 - zoom` procedure for bringing up an on screen display detailing the software/firmware of my machine.

Amongst various info, it said `Jog - Off`

I am using a remote control from the Tosh SD2109 to opperate this machine (the original is far too small), which includes two playback functions not on the original remote. I am presumming if I can switch `Jog` to `On` , it will enable me to then use these playback functions which include reverse playback and reverse slow motion.

If anyone can provide help in carrying out this task, I would be very grateful.

Simon
