RE: Wharfedale 750s - does it play DVD-R?

I`ve got the old school 750 and it plays DVD-R`s fine (well the 3.95 Gig ones)

Film related gigs

Just been thinking about bands which if they played a gig together would produce the ultimate film related line up.

At the moment I`ve got a gig with Obi headlining and One and Kinobe supporting.

Any more...

RE: Name that tune...

It`s a bloke called Matt Hales, he`s from a band called 45s and the song is called "I put a spell on you (Strange & Beautiful)". He hasn`t been signed yet so no release date.

RE: The Terminator R2 DVD ROT PROBLEM

How are they defining a faulty disk. As mine is cloudy but still plays - at the moment!

RE: What football team do you all support?

Man United..and I`m from Salford before you ask!

RE: Resident Evil

There is always a need for stupid films so you can take out your brain and relax. If you try to think while your watching them then you`ll only frustrate yourself.
Just sit back, relax and give your brain a rest for a couple of hours.

I`ve had to start buying more and more of these type of films because I was getting in to a situation where my collection was totally made up of films you had to be in the right mood for - Requiem for a Dream etc.

RE: RCE Does It Effect The Wharfedale 750?

I`ve got a 750 and had it upgraded to get rid of the problem with playing Jaws etc.
Now I was wondering about the RCE question, but my mate lent me Final Fantasy and that played fine.
So I think the rule is RCE play fine once you`ve had the upgrade.

RE: Help to resolve flickering with a wharfedale

Have you got your dvd going through a VHS? If so try plugging it up directly to the TV. If you only have one scart on your TV, get a 3 to 1 scart box from Dixons or Tandy, just make sure it can handle RGB for your US DVD`s.

RE: Where can I download trailers? (DOWNLOAD, NOT STREAM)

www.apple.com/trailers

All quicktimes of course!

RE: True romance - Uncut????

The original VHS version is cut. Where as the DVD version, for some reason is un cut. Another example of the f**ked up censorship rules we have in this country.

Best 28" Widescreen for around £400?

I`ve decided to enter the new world and buy a widescreen TV. However I only has £400 - £450 max to spend.

Any advise?

RE: Which 24" TV?

Cheers for that people.

A 28" is a touch big, but good to know about the bush for future reference.

Just had a look on Dixons site and the JVC has 3 scart sockets, which is always handy!

Which 24" TV?

Thinking of getting a 24" widescreen tv for the bedroom, but which one?
I think it`s going to be between a Panasonic TX24DX1 and a Philips 24PW6006.

Has anybody heard anything about these two or is there a better set out there for under £400.

Cheers people

RE: THE SHINING - REGION 1 - RCE

Is it the old or new remastered version though?

RE: American Werewolf in London cut?

I`ve got the VHS version and the DVD didn`t seem cut when I watched it, but to be honest I wasn`t watching it that closely. I`ll have to dig out my VHS copy and compare.
Hope it`s not!

RE: Paying more for widescreen!!!

If anything I would say a Pan & Scan would cost more to produce because somebody has to sit through the film and decide where to put the 4:3 frame. An anamorphic transfer is just directly encoded 4:3 (tall thin people) from the source. So when it is played on a widescreen or letterboxed TV it is forced back to 16:9 and so is higher quality than a straight 16:9 encode.

There is a great article on www.dvdfile.com about pan & scan dvd`s.

Paying more for widescreen!!!

Just been on the UK HMV site and it says that Harry Potter is out on DVD 11th May. Fair enough, I`m not gonna add it to my collection but I`m sure many people will, but it says

Harry Potter & The Philosophers Stone- Widescreen
DVD £21.99
Harry Potter & The Philosophers Stone- Fullscreen
DVD £19.99

So now are we going to be forced to pay extra to watch the film how the director wanted it to be seen!
If people don`t mind loosing a huge chunk of the image then why don`t they just stick to VHS and leave DVD to people who truly care about films.

Rant over!

RE: Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within (R1)

It is the RCE which is stopping it. You might have to get an update for you player from somewhere.

Betty Blue

Does anybody know where I can get hold of Betty Blue on DVD?
The directors cut is on amazon.fr but doesn`t say if it has english subtitles.

Cheers people!

RE: Traffic-Wharfedale 750 Problem

Nope. Got Traffic R2 and a Wharfedale 750 (with upgrade) and it played through fine.

RE: SKY DIGITAL TO PURCHASE ITV DIGITAL

There is supposed to be an announcement today on the future of ITV Digital. It is expected to say that Granada and Carlton who own ITV Digital are pulling out of the venture, because it is costing them too much money. This will probably result in either Sky or NTL buying it and then gradually closing it down.

RE: League of gentlemen series 2 problem

I`ve got the old style 750 with the free update and both disks seem to work fine.
I say seem as I`ve only watched the documentary and 4 episodes.

Requiem for a Dream - Directors Cut

Apparently there is a directors cut of Requiem for a Dream available in the states, with a run time of 102 mins.
This should give a PAL run time of 98 mins, but on the BBFC site it says that it runs at 97mins with no cuts.
Does anybody know if it was pre cut by the distributor, and if the Directors Cut is worth getting?

Cheers people.

Last House on the Left

I`ve been wanting this on DVD ever since seeing it at the ICA last year, but does anybody know where the most complete version can be found. I know this is a bit of a how longs a piece of string question as all versions are slightly different. I`ve see a copy on alapage for £10, but as I don`t speak French I cant find a run time or extras. There is also one on dc-dvd for £35, this is 89 mins and has a making of... extra on it.
Can anybody advise? Cheers

RE: ER (TV series) on DVD?

Britannia hold the rights to sell it at the moment.

Kalifornia R1 unrated or R2 version?

Does anybody know if the unrated version is any good or should I just go out and buy the R2 version?

RE: Only two there are.No more. No Less

They should just release the re edit version that is knocking about, and pay the editor millions. Give the man some credit for improving the film.
