RE: Troublesome Discs.
Funny thing with those cleaners, I am assuming you got the alcohol solution one. I rented out East is East DVD from bb, again prob with the layer change. Cleaned it, still no joy. Cleaned again and again, eventually gave up. I still haven`t seen the ending so don`t ruin it for me *G*. Anyway apparently when my girlfriend tried it the next day it was fine. Go figure.
She didn`t clean it anymore, and I had checked it was dry before I tried it. Perhaps you have to leave the DVD`s alone after the cleaning for a while, you could try it with The Siege.
I may talk to RS about my 709 because it has awful probs with the layer change.
Glad it worked on 1 disc at least though. I reakon DVD`s should have been in a cartridge then we wouldn`t have these probs.
RE: Troublesome Discs.
I have had similar problems on my 709, but I have found it is due to dirty discs, especially round the edges. Try getting a CD cleaner for a tenner from PC world or similar. Works a treat. If this doesn`t cure it try different region 2 discs, and if they still do it, well I guess the machine might need a service.
Just my 2p`s worth anyway.
RE: Questions for the UK DVD Committee
Well I think if we are heading toward a free trade area with the US and Europe, how long will this regionality last?
Having Regions on DVD`s is awfull, because I don`t like it. Wait hang on.......I know that sounds stupid, but I want to be able to buy a movie from anywhere in the world at the the same time as anyone else in the world.
I don`t care about corporations arguments for regional encoding, since the corporations are established round the regional encoding system why would they argue for anything else?
Again the bottom line is I want to buy whatever I want from wherever I want without restrictions, and I don`t think that is such a bad aspiration.
RE: Blockbuster and cleaning their rental DVDs
Well I haven`t tried any scratch repair stuff yet so no.
However the cleaner I bought was a cdrom cleaner from pc world for a tenner. It works with an alcohol solvent and the circular motion of a cleaning pad. Since that digital innovations thing has a handle I assume it works in a similar way but with a repair substance instad of the alcohol.
Bearing in mind rentals get far more abuse than anything else, I would go for a simple cleaner, as I have seen very few dvd`s so far with bad scratching. What they do have doesn`t affect playback. It is the dirt/grease that is the main problem, hence the need for a cleaner. Certainly beats cleaning it with washing up liquid and running it under the tap, :)
In a way I wish they had made the dvd standard to include a housing for the disc, then we wouldn`t have these problems.
btw what about a review of the most cost effective cleaning products?

RE: Blockbuster and cleaning their rental DVDs
Thanks very much Mark, i`m sure I wouldn`t have got the same response as just another member of joe public. Ahhhh how the power of the online media grows......
I think they were being economical with the truth, i mean if they don`t have cleaning equipment now and they do not clean in between rentals then it IS their policy NOT to clean them. Anyway.....
Hope they sort this out soon the dvd`s are getting worse and worse, I finally went and got a cleaning kit because of this.
709 Player keeps skipping.....
I have posted before about my 709 and the hack etc. It is at Richers at the mo being upgraded to firmware 3.28. I have a loan machine (another 709 unknown firmware) at the mo and have been renting out DVD`s from Blockbuster. I ALWAYS get discs I cannot play due to dirt/grease. The 709 seems really susceptible to this. So my question is are other DVD Players able to read a disc if it is dirty better than others?
I think the 709 have a lot of problems with the layer change, and poor disc quality.
btw can you believe it is Blockbusters policy NOT to clean the discs before you rent them, perhaps as online journo`s you lot could pester them into changing their minds.
RE: Enable hack on richer sounds bought samsung dvd-709?
Ok but which model number aiwa amp and what specific functions does it need to emulate? I`m a bit unclear as to what the 079 key combo is supposed to be?
Also does any one know the one4all phone number for a recent upgrade?
Or even their web address?
Recent Addition: The guide on the hack says to use the Aud button on the one4all 6, mine doesn`t have this button so do you mean a newer version of the remote?

RE: Enable hack on richer sounds bought samsung dvd-709?
Thanks for the advice RJS I took back my machine to be firmware upgraded and got a loan machine in the meantime. So i`ll wait to do the hack on my own machine with the new firmware. What is the cheapest remote to get to do the job? I`m pretty sure my old one4all 6 can`t do it, maybe it needs an upgrade over the phone I not sure if even this would work (Does anyone know the phone number to call?)
What do I need to get the remote to emulate and which functions do I need to get it to trigger?
btw this is an ace site
RE: Enable hack on richer sounds bought samsung dvd-709?
It is 3-4 months old, I have only just tried to multiregion it though since I now have aregion 1 disc. I do have some problems with the matrix, when using the menu system selecting enter seems to change choice as well. In austin 2 it has problems with the commentary stopping at the end of each scene. Is this an example of the problems you were talking about? If so do richer sounds have a policy on this problem, and what is it?
Enable hack on richer sounds bought samsung dvd-709?
I have read and tried the hack for the dvd-709 on this site (It failed for me), using an older style one-4-all 6 remote (I am gonna buy a newer one to make sure it was working correctly). I am now wondering if it is possible to upgrade the firmware on this the richer sounds sourced samsung dvd-709 to a newer firmware so that I can enable the hack, since the beginning of the article seems to say that the early firmware is the problem with these foreign 709`s (mine is french).
Could more experienced users help me out?
