RE: Full HD or HD ready?

I`ve gone through the same sort of process as you are.

My absolute recomendation would be to spend a bit more and for your main lounge TV, go for a Panasonic Vierra 42" or bigger in plasma.

The Panasonic spec is extremely good and superior to many other makes.  Also you have the knowledge that support is there if you need it and can be contacted without using all of these 0845/0844 phone numbers.  I have asked some questions of their support team and they have been really helpful.

Of course if you are buying a TV for abedroom or some such then by all means go for a cheaper model from either Aldi or Tesco - personally I would go to Aldi as you get a free 3 year warranty as standard.

RE: Kindle - are they worth it

I am into new technology for the most part.  I love my computer and I love my PS3.  I would really miss my TV and BRD and surround sound setup if it were taken away.

But, I still like curling up with a good old fashioned book.  You can`t beat a good book - I like the way you can get a piece of card and use it as a marker or turn the corner of the page over.

Reading of a screen doesn`t appeal to me at all.  After all we spend so much time looking at one screen or another, it makes a welcome change to do it the old way!

RE: Clarkston rants on `one show` about strikers !

The biggest problem with this country that we live in at the moment, (and it has been for quite a while), is that with all of the dilution of our culture, a major proportion of the population has lost, (or never had) it`s sense of humour.

We Brits were famous for our sense of humour in that we had the gift of being able to laugh at our selves and others.

Now all of the jokes and comments have to be proof read first in case they offend some minority group or other.

I play golf.  The clubmembers that I play with, even the ones you don`t play with often all have the old gift.  I mean the gift of being able to take the p*ss and know that it is not going to offend.  I also mean the ability to give as good as you get and not be offended when you are on the receiving end.

What the hell is the matter with all of these miserable beggars?!

RE: Samsung DVD511 - Hack

Does anyone know how to return the DVD-511 back to its factory setting so that all the functions work correctly?

I don`t need it as a multi region anymore so I want to get it back to what it was.

Samsung DVD-511 - How do reset hack to Factory State?

Hi everyone!

It`s been a long time since I last came in on this forum - mainly because I haven`t needed any hacks because all of the Panasonic DVD players I have been using in the last few years have all been region free - what a fantastic idea from those Panasonic people!

My mother has recently come to live close by and i am setting her up with a TV system using a few of my old faithful, (but still working like new), peripherals.  To be honest the Samsung DVD-511 is still a good machine and that`s why I kept it boxed up and stored away up my loft.

I am giving her the Samsung.  It is perfectly OK for her to watch her old romantic movies etc. and it will play few CDs to boot, (although I don`t know about CD -R/+R and RW).

When I last used it it was set up using the multi region hack code from this website, i.e.

http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/full/thomson3300.asp

I would like to reset the DVD player to its factory setting at region 2 so that all of the functions work normally.

Can anyone help me out in what I have to do?

I would really appreciate any help available with this old machine.

RE: POLL: Frankie Boyle is a..

I must admit he gets a bit to much for me on his one man show but I like him in small doses when he features on Mock The Week or Live at The Apollo.

Is it me or am I the only one who can see through the gag that`s causing most of the uproar, (i.e. Jordan, Andre)?

The way I see it he is cleverly directing the humour, (if you can call it that), not at the handicapped offspring but at the feckless parents, which in my opinion deserve everything that comes at them.

I just wish he would start on the equally feckless audience that these Katie and Peter shows actually attract and also the producers of these shows that seem to think that this is the type of quality television that the viewing public want.

RE: Satellite cable?

Maplin - too damned expensive!

B&Q - only sell it in 10 metre lengths.

Wilkinsons - good bet!

Better still see if you can find one of those old style TV shops with a workshop in the back.

RE: Panasonic DMR-EX78 or the Sony RDR-HXD 970?

Analogue will be turned off where I live soon, (North Wales). To be honest I won`t miss it because unless you are Welsh speaking there`s only 3 channels you can watch anyway and there`s no Channel 5.

Go for the Panasonic. I`ve bought it and it is superb. My only regret is I didn`t go all out and buy the DMR-EX88 with the bigger hard drive and SD card extras.

My best price was about £270 from Amazon.

Connectivity is simple enough although I have a few queries regarding the S-Video link for my Panasonic camcorder, (I can`t get a picture so I`ve had to revert to the yellow plug on the AV lead set). Also I`m asking questions about any necessary settings to be made when connecting the unit to my Home Theatre System (SC-PT460), using an Optical Digital lead for the audio.

I`ve emailed Panasonic, but I don`t expect a quick answer, (if I get one at all!).

The thing is with Panasonic equipment is that it is all, (every component), made in house, whereas Sony is assembled from bought in components. In fact Samsung make a lot of Sony`s bits and pieces.

RE: Anyone got a hack for the Panasonic SC-PT460EB-K Home Cinema System yet?

I`m answering my own question here !!

I`ve just taken delivery of this HCS system. The guy came over today from the TV shop, (not bloody Curry`s or Comet but a proper TV shop!), to deliver and set up the new TV and HCS. He also connected my old VHS and Sky box, (which is getting replaced soon with Freesat). He did all this for free - unlike Comet!

I have had a chance to tinker with it since. I just thought I`d try a couple of the DVDs that I have in my vast collection that I know are Region 1 and guess what - they run without having to modify anything!

So there you are fellow forumers - no hack needed for the Panasonic SC-PT460EB-K Home Cinema System - it`s already region free - well mine is anyway!

Does anyone know anything about this website and what it is offering?

This website is offering a multi-region solution for the HCS that I have requested a hack code for.

The only problem is that it isn`t free!

Also it has to be returned because it is on a rental basis - so what`s that all about then?

Anyone got a hack for the Panasonic SC-PT460EB-K Home Cinema System yet?

My second request!

The same question goes for this one. Will the hack have any side effects on the operation of the player in conjunction with the TV?

Anybody got a hack code yet for the new Panasonic-S54?

I am led to understand that this player is the replacement for the DVD-S53

When it hacked, (if indeed it can be hacked), are there any side effects?

RE: ALBA DVD70S

Dera Hackeroonie

You are obviously well into this sort of thing - I am afraid I am well behind your specialist ability. I am good at other things though!

I haven`t tried any hacks yet, but being a fairly logical thinker, I would like a backdoor or a bale out area out of this if there is one.

If the hack does not work or for any reason I need the machine to revert to it`s factory settings, I need to know how to return it back to ir`s former state - do you have an answer?

Also, I managed to get through on the ALBA technical line (after ages and ages), and the guy actually said that this particular machine is set up as Region 2. Evidently, since they are a UK registered company they are required by some strange copyright law to configure there machines as Region 2.

So what are these machines that are region free that you seem to know about?

How do I know if my machine is indeed region free - I do not own anything other than Region 2 commercially produced discs and this is my first venture into the unknown!

What I am fearful about is that I bugger up the machine I have got which is work fine and dandy for the other stuff!

I have a couple of DVD players that are quite old but very functional. When one breaks down I am prepared to buy another, but I am not going out to throw my money on something before my current equipment has expired.

I do not upgrade for the sake of it!

Do you see where I am coming from?

Please help as best you can.

RE: ALBA DVD70S

Hi fleng - I hope you are still around!

I haave one of these which too came from the Daily Express. I haven`t used it much but now need to establish whether I can play multi-region discs on it.

You say it is MR out of the box - does that mean that I don`t need to enter any hacks?

If i do have to enter hacks to get it play multi-region, what would i have to do if i wanted to return it to it`s factory state?
