The Toshiba will do everything your video does and more. You can record while watching another channel. You can back up from hard drive to DVD. If you want to take it round a friend`s you will have to finalise the disc. If your friend has one dub from hard drive to DVD-Ram (you get one in the box) and it will play straight away on your friends. You can pause live TV if the phone rings and carry on where you left off. I start watching the F1 GP 15 minutes after it's started. I can then fast forward through the adverts. Eventually you do catch up. :D
Definitely go for DVD hard drive combo. You only need DVD blanks if you want to archive from hard drive.

After 25 years of engineering for me the fan noise isn't a problem. As fans go you can hear it but it seems to be of a low frequency and fairly quiet so not to annoying.
If you buy over the internet you have 7 days from receiving goods to cancel the order. Why not try it out. I also have a http://www.jvc.co.uk/product.php?id=DR-MH30SEK&catid=18&lid= which does have a super quiet fan. But at twice the price of the Tosh!!!
