RE: Panasonic DMCFZ7BB 6MP Digital Camera £149.99 Argos

Just thought I`d give you a quick update on my thoughts of my new Kodak Z612.

I have found the camera and the software that comes with it easy to use. Like many, I guess, I spent the first few days taking pictures of the wife and kids (when they were not really interested), flowers, birds etc in the garden, even my car and the street outside. :B

Anyway, I went to watch the F1 Testing at Silverstone yesterday, so thought this was a good opportunity to really test the camera (well, my skills at using it anyway!). I took a total of 150 pictures (excluding the ones I deleted at the time of an empty track, or where I had just got a shot of half a car - damm those things are quick!!). Anyway, back at home, reviewing them on the PC, I got rid of another 35 that were sightly blurred, or did not meet my expectations, and kept the rest. Some of the really good one`s (I picked my top 12), the one`s I am most proud of 8) , I cropped and uploaded to the my Kodak Gallary so I can share them. If your interested, you can see them by clicking on the link below.

I think you will agree, that for less than £150, this is a great little camera and fantastic value for money! :)

RE: Panasonic DMCFZ7BB 6MP Digital Camera £149.99 Argos

After spending the last few days trying to track down a Panasonic DMC FZ7 for around £150 to no avail (out of stock or over my £150 limit), I finally decided I would need to look for something else.

After a little research, I narrowed my choice down to the following from pixmania.co.uk:

Fuji Finepix S5700 (7.1 meg x10 optical zoom) - £143*
Kodak Z710 (7.1 meg x10 optical zoom) - £136*
Kodak Z612 (6.1 meg x12 optical zoom) - £146*

* including P&P

As I am not a professional photographer by any stretch of the imagination, and needed a camera that was a step up from the current 3.2 meg point and shoot, and not too difficult to use, I decided to go with the 3rd option for it's ease of use, plenty of features for me to play with, massive optical zoom and comes with a re-chargable long lasting (hopefully) lithium battery and charger (no more messing about hunting down and charging loads of AA batteries for me!).

Ordered this afternoon, so should have it by the end of the week, so I hope I have made a good choice.

RE: Can I password protect a folder in xp?

You could use WinZip or 7-Zip to zip your folder. You can then set a password when you create your zip file. This does mean you will need to unzip before you start work, and remember to zip it back when you have finished.

Maybe just as easy to back up your work to a usb pen drive and keep that with you.

RE: GPX Navigator (Speed Camera Detector) - Free at Staples !!

I popped into our local Staples yesterday and could only see full Sat Nav`s for hundreds of £££`s. Not a single speed camera detector to be seen. Certainly nothing in the £20 range.

Maybe this £19.91 GPX Navigator was a local clearance item. :(

RE: Panda Virus Scan - Should I keep it

I, like you regularly run a number of different Antispyware programmes, and as I have said before on these discussion boards, I have also installed BOTH AVG and Avast Antivirus, and they happily run together without conflict.

At the weekend I manually ran an Avast scan (AVG has a scheduled daily run) and it found a trojan that AVG had missed.

Personally I would not uninstall AVG or Avast for any other product unless there was very good reason, they have both served me well.

RE: Avoiding Spam

You could also look at www.cashette.com or www.bluebottle.com. With these a verification message is sent back to each sender asking them to verify themselves (spammers usually will not). Only then will the email get delivered to your inbox. Both can be accessed via web, and can be downloaded to your Outlook/Thunderbird. Best of all, these are free!

RE: dirt devil pressure washers £9.99 in sainsburys

Popped in to my local store on the way home from work last night, just on the off-chance that they might still have some left. And yes they did.

They come with a standard `wand` and a detergent bottle attachment.

Can`t resist playing with a new gadet, so had a go at the patio (but I`ll finish that at the weekend!) and washed the car.

All I can say is what terrific value for money !!

RE: Change Home Page

Have you swept your PC for Spyware recently? If not, then I would recommend trying that first using Ad-Aware and Spybot. If you don`t already have these, you can get them from here. It could be that you have got some sort of browser hijacker.

RE: Watching an iso?

You could try VLC Media Player. I know that it supports a number of formats, but not sure about ISO. I found a link to it from here

RE: Free software firewall - Comodo

I use TWO anti-virus packages AVG and AVAST. Both work perfectly together without any conflicts at all. All incoming and outgoing emails are scanned by both packages. Any virus missed by one will hopefully be caught by the other.

I also use TWO firewalls, although one is a hardware firewall in the router, and the other is SYGATE. The router firewall will not stop unwanted outgoing connections, just incomming which is why I have SYGATE as well.

RE: Free software firewall - Comodo

I tried it for a while a few months back, but it downloads some files (something to do with Trustix) that SpySweeper kept identifying as spyware, so went back to Sygate in the end.

I also found Jetico Personal Firewall from HomePCLinks.com (amongst other free software they link to) but I have not yet had a chance to try that yet. Anyone else used it?

RE: free airtime credit

All working OK this morning.

It seems that due to the high volume of activations caused by this latest promotion, it was taking longer than usual to get all the SIM`s registered and activated.

RE: free airtime credit

Got my easymobile.com SIM yesterday, activated it, and shoved it into a spare SIM free phone. Been talking to easymobile Customer Services ever since, as all outgoing calls are being barred, but it will accept incoming calls.

I will give them a bit longer to get this sorted, and I will let you know how I get on.

Anyone else had any problems?
