My E85 does this as well. Pictute is recorded as 16:9 Anamorphic but you need to manually set your TV to widescreen.

It sometimes does this to me when I transfer progs from HD to DVD-R using FR mode.
It doesn`t seem to like the TDK X8 DVD-Rs I bought. Takes ages for it to come out of the recovery mode. I tried e-mailing Panasonic but got no reply. It`s still under guarantee though.

I bought one a few weeks ago. The sound quality is great using my Sennheiser PX200`s.
I`m having trouble moving the files from the playlist section but I`ll try downloading the latest software. Looks like the price has gone back down again. Yes, the battery life isn`t great but a 20Gb hard drive for £120 is a bargain. Build quality is solid.
Panasonic E-85 Recording problem
I`ve had a Panasonic E85 for over 6 months. Had no problems using TDK 4X DVD-Rs.
Starting using TDK 8X DVD-Rs recently. Having problems with these. The machine sometimes shuts down during FR recording. Also, machine shuts down if I try and choose my own thumbnails. Has anyone else had similar problems? I`m still wating for feedback from Panasonic and TDK. It still works fine with 4X media.
