RE: LVW-5005 Tuner sound probems

The sound is a bit distorted on mine too, I record TV programs via my VCR tuner on the SCART input which gives great sound quality.

RE: Liteon LVW5005 playback problem

I had random "stutters" on mine too until I used media from the recommended list, if you use the recommended DVD`s you`ll have no problems. The DVD+RW which is supplied with the LVW5005 is of Sony manufacture, I looked up the number printed on the lead-in ring to confirm this. It may even be Ricoh as these are from the same manufacturer. I have found that Imation DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW work fine, also Verbatim DVD-RW work great (although these are NOT in the recommended list!) It`s simply a case of choosing the right media. If you have trouble locating the recommended discs have a look on ebay, that`s where I get mine. All the best!

RE: lite on lvw5005 macrovision hack

All of you LVW5005 users out there, there is an extremely simple workaround for copying MV tapes to DVD for this machine, just do the following:

1).....Power up your LVW5005, insert a DVD and get everything set up ready to record.
2).....Record for a couple of seconds FROM A NON-MV SOURCE (such as the output screen from your VCR) - DON`T PLAY THE TAPE YET THOUGH!
3).....Press "PAUSE" on the LVW5005 remote.
4).....Start the tape playing in the VCR.
5).....As soon as the required start point on the tape has been reached, press "PAUSE" again on the LVW5005 remote.

That`s it!

This fools the LVW5005 into thinking it has already checked for MV protection on the tape. Don`t stop and restart the tape though or the MV will be detected again and recording will stop. This works every time for me and may well work for other DVD recorders.

Alternatively, albeit at a slightly lower quality, although still perfectly acceptable, you can record from an MV protected tape via the RF-OUT socket on your VCR to the RF-IN socket on your LVW5005, all you need to do is to tune in a spare channel on the 5005 to your VCR output just as you would an ordinary TV channel. In some cases you need to start the 5005 recording a second or two before you start the VCR playing.

I hope this has been of use to you all.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!
