RE: New Plasma! had to tell someone!

Woah! Sounds like you`re having a nightmare.

I personally wouldn`t trust a Comet engineer as far as I could throw them (or anyone else from Comet for that matter). Can you find a Sagem recommended engineer?

How do you know it isn`t a faulty bulb? You can get your bulbs refurbished for around £200. I stumbled across a place recently - will try and find it again for you.

Do you let the set switch itself off properly - ie never turn the switch off before the fan has cooled it down? Is the fan still working?

My last Panasonic 32" CRT died on me after 13 months, so it happens with any tech, at any time.

I`ve had a Sagem HD-D45 for over a year. It`s a huge DLP rear projection set. It isn`t particularly deep and has a terrific picture for every source.

How is the viewing angle as that one the big downsides with rear projection

The viewing angle on the Sagem isn`t brilliant - 45 degrees from each corner outwards. You`re best off sat directly in front. Some LCD`s and Plasma`s suffer from the same problem, but with DLP sets its a bit more evident.

I did buy it over a year ago when LCD and Plasma 42 inchers were around £1500 for a decent one (my Dad`s new 42" Panny Viera cost him £950 this year!). If I was buying now I`d probably go for a Plasma.

Oh and like LCD`s the screen is soft - we`ve managed so far to keep our toddler away from it (2 years old and often with very messy fingers!).

RE: New Plasma! had to tell someone!

Don`t knock the rear projection until you`re tried it :)

I`ve had a Sagem HD-D45 for over a year. It`s a huge DLP rear projection set. It isn`t particularly deep and has a terrific picture for every source. My Dad just got a 42" Panny Viera which is a great set but the controller and menu system is a horror to use. The glass on the Panny is also horribly reflective. The Sagem upscales its freeview source into the best `TV` picture I`ve seen on a set and watching a DVD produces an outstanding picture that really feels like a cinema experience because of the way the light is handled.

It does suffer a bit from Rainbow effect, but after 3 months, you really don`t notice it at all.

The beauty in the Sagem is the number of connectors which current LCD and Plasma sets have only just caught up with. 2 x HDMI, Component, 3 Scart and a VGA. I watch stuff from my laptop on it and its so easy to connect up. I haven`t even hooked anything that`s HD up to it yet - bloody itching to see it! (the shop demo was incredible).

Oh and anyone getting a new telly, go to John Lewis. They`ll price match the high street (sometimes the web) and I got a 5 year parts and labour warranty! Sweet!.

RE: PANASONIC DMREX75 TNT DVD Player & Recorder with 160 GB hard disk £263 at Pixmania

Be very wary about ordering from Pixmania. I ordered a digital camera through my old company. A package got signed for by the dumb blomde in reception and all it contained was a memory card. The packing slip had the camera on there.

I then tried getting hold of someone to let them know the error. It took 30 mins to find a number on their site. A french number that kindly told me that the line was no longer in service, then cut me off. I then tried their email support - which when you click takes you through to the french site, with everything in french. Nice.

It eventually took a month or so and a shedload of hassle to get hold of the original order. I certainly wouldn`t order from them again.

RE: `The Natural World` in administration - Bargains to be had instore...

Just checked in the Wimbledon branch - still open and everything at 50%, but not much to be had (no telescopes etc).

Best of luck lw78. It`s a shame as Natural World was always the first place to go for xmas presents.

RE: 60 day Free Unlimited DVD Rental Trial

Its run by LoveFilm too (formerly Screen Select) - which is bizarre because Tesco is cheaper then LoveFilm!???

I rang up LF to cancel last month to switch over to Tesco and they let me have a month half price. So I`ll cancel after this month and go over to Tesco.

RE: Battlestar Galactica Complete Season 2 £12.99

Be careful with Battlestar sets - I bought `season 2.0` from Amazon last year. Cost me £45 once customs had got hold of it and the set was only the first 12 episodes. Rip off.

RE: PSP CONSOLE GIGA PACK - BEST DEAL AROUND?

You`re better off getting the base pack, £149, and a 1gb stick separately, £29.99. Sandisk make the sticks for Sony so you`re not getting any different quality. The headphones and remote really aren`t worth the extra you`d be spending on `value` pack (not forgetting that rubbish case and that oh so useful 32mb card.)

Then get yourself the Loco Roco demo and you`ll never need to buy a game again!

Green is back up to £210.

Blue is now £184.

White is £195.

I`m very confused!

RE: DVD.CO.UK - Free £20 Voucher with Screen Select

I had exactly that problem - with a switch card. Had to use another card which worked, then having registered, went into my account details and changed the card back to the original card I had wanted to use.

I`ve used my £20 voucher no problems with quick delivery from DVD.co.uk and I`ve not cancelled screen select, as so far, so good.

Some of the discs are VERY scratched but haven`t had any major playing problems. Postage from SS isn`t that fast but you can get through 4 discs a week.

Got my £20 voucher and my first discs came through today. Both scratched to sh**.

Will be interesting to see if I can actually watch any of the DVD`s that come through.

RE: DVD.CO.UK - Free £20 Voucher with Screen Select

Cheers OP - I just signed up for this. Did indeed look at my own DVD collection and realised how much I`d wasted really given how few of them I`ve watched twice.

Will be good for games too - I`d rather try them out this way than waste £30 a pop on total toilet like King Kong on the PSP.

RE: Silver Screen bargains

Likewise in Wimbledon. `Store Closing` sign but the usual prices.

Worth keeping an eye for some last minute bargains though.

RE: Free Gillette razor.....

Got a sodding Mach 3 Turbo - which I already have. Probably because I said I use standard Mach 3 blades (because I`m not daft enough to pay twice as much for other M3 power ones).

Just call 08701 942 096 and quote `FEBPLUS`.

RE: Pro Evolution Soccer 5 - £14.99 at HMV & free p&p

Got mine yesterday too. Big thanks to the original poster.

I`m not enamoured with it yet, but I had that same experience with every one of its predecessors. They usually take a while to get the hang of. I just hope the PSP version lives up to expectations as I`ll be playing that more.

RE: Pro Evolution Soccer 5 - £14.99 at HMV & free p&p

2-5 days for shipping. HMV.co.uk is now based in Guernsey so the shipping will be the same as Play.

Would have been nice today, but even nicer waiting a couple of days and saving £15.

Ditto. HMV get big plus points for this.

I`ve shopped with them online in the past and the service has been rubbish. I know they`ve relocated their online dept recently and after this I will definitely use them again.

RE: Top Laptop

Repost on my experiences with Acer:

I wouldn`t touch Acer with a bargepole. I had a monitor from them last year. It lasted 5 months before it went wrong and got sent to Acer repairs.

It was there for 3 months before they finally admitted it wouldn`t be fixed and I managed to at least wangle a 19" upgrade. Before that happened I had the worst experience I`ve ever had as a consumer. Every phone call meant waiting for 14 minutes (I timed it exactly on several occasions) before anyone would pick up and then more infuriating conversations with under-trained `service agents` who didn`t have a clue about decent customer services or the status of my monitor, other than parts were on order.

They also changed their phone number, but didn`t change it on the website for over a week, so were completely uncontactable. Oh and no they don`t answer emails.

Buy Acer at your own risk, but personally I think anyone who does is a mug. There`s plenty of others who agree with me - have a look at http://www.blagger.com

Rant over - Coop.

I know other people who as a company had 5 Acer laptops. 5 went back.
