RE: Dell Dimension 4700 PC for £235 (no monitor) [was: Dell 2400 for £106]

I received my 4700 a few weeks ago, brilliant deal, i got a second hand pci express x800xt and it flies (need a faster processor though) but for £234, it was a total bargain. Replaced the 80gb with 2 x 160gb drives.

RE: Another Cheapish Decent Spec Base Unit

i wouldnt say its a bargain by any means, its about the going rate for that kind of bundle.

RE: for those in the 50

lol, they should have, i was a scary mofo for a week, had to wear them every night in case i accidently poked myself in the eyes :)

RE: for those in the 50

lol - i had laser eye surgery in February - that is a glorious high resolution image of me after the surgery ;)

RE: Chewing The Fat series 1, 2, 3 and 4 - £10 at Fopp

that is a cracking price, ill take a trip into glasgow tomorrow and see ;)

RE: for those in the 50

if you buy the sagem, do not buy the sagem stand, it looks horrible - looks much better on a glass stand, see the first picture in my above post.

RE: for those in the 50

Some pictures here of my tv running in high def mode on the xbox

unfortunately my digi cam is only 1mp, tony hawks however is like playing on a pc, quality is amazing :)

RE: for those in the 50

Thats fair enough, but you cannot say something is fact because it is your opinion. I take it if its £2299 that you bought the 37" plasma, would that be right? That would explain why you have a sharper picture than the 42" pioneer, sony and the 50" sagem. Try changing to lower resolutions on your computer TFT monitor to see how size affects performance (640x480 on a tft looks terrible compared to its native resolution).

It really depends how long you want to keep a tv for at the moment before buying, if you are looking to buy a tv for the next 18 months, then something like the panasonic 6 series are fine, as they dont have HDTV support, its worth spending £1000 more and getting the hitachi, which has a better screen and native 720p support, for when sky start their broadcasts in early 2006.

Obviously with the DLP TVs they didnt have the HTPC running the hi definition demo`s.

One thing to note for anyone considering a large tv - the DLP Rear Projection do not suffer from screen burn like plasmas.

RE: for those in the 50

ah right i get you now, you spent £2300 on a viera, (im guessing the one without the fancy stand at that price) so of course you have to justify to yourself that it is better than the competition, the viera is last years technology with a nicer surround, that is fact.

Because you say that it is fact does not actually mean it is - go read some AV magazine reviews, you might learn a few things.

If the sagem was blurry on your dvd recorder (not the best source for an AV shootout eh?) then you were standing too close to it, you need to be at least 3 metres away from a DLP RPTV to view it correctly.

RE: for those in the 50" TV market...

The Viera looks nice on its stand, but to get a picture as good as the Sagem/Optoma you need to be spending around £6000-7000 for a like for like plasma.

If it was the same channel on all 3, then its going through the RF unit, and as such, is not a good indicator of what the tv`s can do (any of them).

My friend just bought the 42" pioneer (about £3800) and even he admits that the picture is not a patch on my sagem playing a dvd through a good quality feed.

The optoma themescene is available through the usual specialist stores, and like the sagem, dropped to £1999 at the same time, if your near the West Midlands you can actually go into the Optoma factory with whatever AV of your own that you have and give it a proper demo.

BTW: The Veira is based on Panasonic 6 Series, the same screens that you can buy now for £1500, your basically spending 2 grand more for a much nicer surround and stand, and thats a fact :)

RE: for those in the 50" TV market...

I have had the sagem for 2 months now, its a cracking tv when used with a decent feed (good dvd, xbox high definition) but...

The optomo Themescene 50" is also now £1999, its basically the same as the sagem, (optomo make them for sagem) except its black, and it has HDMI and a newer dlp chip, so thats the one to go for if your considering the sagem, same money, more features (unless you prefer silver over black).
