RE: Dell Laptop £339

Just bought this laptop for £299, though upgraded to 15.4" screen and 6 hour battery. I had to telephone though, and the sales assistant I spoke to knew all about it. It`s a very good deal for a nice Dell - though I`ll probably upgrade the RAM myself. Anyone know how easy this is to do, and whether I just need to plug in another 256Mb 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM?

RE: SONIX 26" LCD Panel for £499 at Sainsburys

Had been looking for one of these for a while, after reading all the positive comments. Someone posted that my local Sainsbury`s had three in stock last Tuesday, and I motored over and picked one up.

Have been very impressed. I have it hooked up to my Toshiba 340 using the component video connection and progressive scan, and pictures are excellent!

Also hooked up my SKY+ box via Scart, and also great pictures. Haven`t tried connecting to my laptop yet, but am sure it will give equally good results.

Would recommend this highly.

RE: Aldi Portable DVD Player £200

As I think I may have said earlier, the Bush PDV2000 is identical to the Apex 650 in the USA.

Their manual is much much better than the crappy booklet supplied with the Bush. Take a look http://www.apexdigitalinc.com/images/PD-650S.qxd.pdf

It doesn`t seem hackable, yet. Take a look at http://www.nerd-out.com/forum/index.php?sid=a386dbd51ede1770a8f43fc465204a29

...and look under PDV models

I still think it`s great for £199...and kept my kid busy on a logn drive yesterday!

Bush PDVD2000

Bush Portable DVD player PDVD2000 (ALDI, £199)

This Region 2 player is very similar to Apex 650 player.

You can get it to play Region 1 disks by repeatedly pressing "1" on your remote as the disk loads. It will diasplay "Wrong Region", but play nevertheless. The remote keys don`t work thereafter though.

Also, SETUP, PREFERENCES, enter on remote 1,3,6,9. This brings up version number (and little else!)

Can it be hacked permanently?

RE: Aldi Portable DVD Player £200

Partial hack:

When disc is loading continue to quickly press #1 on the remote. The movie begins to play from track #1. There will be a "wrong region" title at the top. This hack does not let you use any remote control key.

Also found this:
1. When playing a DVD, press stop on the DVD Player to ensure that the disc is not spinning.

2. Using the remote control, press the "Set-Up" button and advance to the far right-hand tab "Preferences".

3. Enter Code # 1379

This brings up a version number. Can`t yet find how to change anything here though.

RE: Aldi Portable DVD Player £200

Having had mine all morning...I have been at DVDRHelp`s hacks pages...can`t find any that work yet.

Tried ALL the Bush hacks
Tried ALL the Alba hacks
Tried ALL the Goodmans hacks

Not sure where to go from here though...

RE: Aldi Portable DVD Player £200

Just back from Aldi with this.
It`s a Bush PDVD2000.
Looks good, and works fine. Bit plasticky, but for £199, a bargain.

Now I need the multiregion hack....
