About this user: Hi peeps, I am a 20 year old guy currently in a state of limbo after having to leave my uni placement because of family reasons. Due to the depression, DVDs have been my comfort blankie, I currently own over 150 possibly 200. Am attempting to sell some as I am in need of cash but I am finding it hard to part with many.

Macrovision free DVD players!! :s
Hi, guys, I dunno if anyone can help me, I got a phillips dvdr70 and a Dansai 852 now the thing is I wanted to copy my r1 discs to PAL setting in an effort to improve pic quailty and reduced flickering. My Dansai dvd player had been remote hacked and also Macrovision was able to be disabled but sadly my dvd player has played up a lot not reading discs and freezing which is no good to record my films.
I am looking to buy a new DVD player which also can be macrovision free-ed any suggestions? I know they are hard to come by but I will hold out hope, the cheaper the better!!!
Let us know,
Cheers, Mike

RE: couple of bargins
Hi, there, great spot! I just ordered me Buffy seasons 4-6 as I have R1 1-3 but wanted the widescreen versions at a cheap price!! This seems to have been a recent change as they were a lot more the other day even when Alias had been reduced from £35 which I paid to £19.99!!
Just a quick question for anyone who might know - This newer repackaged versions of Buffy which are being released June time - its it just the casing which is changed or are there any additional changes? I have ordered the originals due in 24/05/04 but would reconsider getting the newer packages as they would be in better nick and are a few quid cheaper again. Do you think the `repackaged` versions would be in the style of the Dark Angel sets???
Hope someone can make this a bit more clearer. Cheers, Mike.

Help needed - Digital Cameras etc
Hi guys, the other night I was over my grandfathers when he showed me a digital camera he bought when over in NZ it was a Kodak easy share CX6200 he also had a Printer Dock 6000. I have been after a Digi cam ever since the one bought for my father went kaput but never did. Now funnily enough, I went to town today and picked up a better model (KODAK CX6330) second hand for £109.99 it has zoom and also had an aditional 128mb memory card which the previous owner sold with it. The only problem was that the USB cable was missing. Luckily I managed to pick up a cable in another shop which actually works with the camera and I only paid a fiver for it!!
Right this is where I need your help, in the store there was also the printer dock and the previous owner sold both items to the shop and they were for sale seperately. The printer dock was priced up at £79.99 which is a bargain as in argos it is £149.99!!!
I decided not to purchase this item as I would prefer to actually buy a new full sized printer which has photo quality - good dpi and possibly a memory card reader. I deicded that this was the best option as I could use the new printer to print out other things compared to just photos and also toggle with the digital photos before I print them out.
So basically, I would be really happy if any of you had any suggestions for such a printer, if possible I would like it to be cost effective (possible use imitation inks from the net or something) price tag around £80. Hope some of you have got some ideas. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Cheers, Mike

RE: HELP NEEDED - some bad news
Hey Rik, Ive only just stumbled along this post! I am sorry to hear about your dad. I think it might help you to know that I myself have been through the same thing! I am 20 now but lost my father to oesophageal cancer nearly a year ago (april 19 2003) But I will tell you it sounds a completely different situation to which your father is going through!
My dad was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer at the begining of 2002 and was told he would have a major operation which turned out to be 8 hours long which entailed removing half the stomach and food pipe and reshaping it. This was nessesary as he was unable to swallow any food.
The problems occured when he was due to have Chemo to reduce the size of the tumour making it easier to operate on. To our upset my fathers body did not agree with my father who was seriously ill as an effect to the treatment, he was constantly sick etc and it was decided by the doctors that they would stop the chemo as it was having an even more detrimental effect to his wellbeing. His course was planned to be 8 bouts of the chemo and then the op but the reality of the situation was that he only had the one session and then went in for the op.
I could not even begin to imagine what the outcome to be and when I saw what he had been through, it was hard to beleive that he survived but I will spare you the details.
Anyway he pulled through the op and stayed in hospital for a few months in the meantime he did begin eating again. Because the chemo did not work previously my father instead was given radiotherapy which seemed to agree with him more but I feel that the fact the chemo did not work for him began his downward spiral. As he was given no chemo, the Cancerous cells spread everywhere as the rogue cells were not eliminated and by christmas my dad lost his appetite and was taken to hospital for tests. We were then told around the end of January 2003 that it had spread and that he only had 3 months to live. This in turn ended up being quite accurate much to our saddness. My father was only 47 I have a younger brother (17) and sister (15) and my parents were happily married. You always ask yourself why me but you just accept eventually that that is the way of the world! Six weeks before my dad past away my grandmother also died but of a major and sudden heart attack! They do say the lord works in mysterious ways - and he certainly does!
I believe that your father is sounding pretty good, his chemo seems to be lasting longer than it did with my dad and I am pleased for you. I hope reading this has helped you in some sort of way, I myself have still not grasped what has happened to me and my family these past few years and cant even begin to. Life sucks a lot but we all must somehow find the strength to carry on for the sake of each other and for the furture happiness we WILL find with the rest of our loved ones as our past loved ones look over us and guide us in our lives.
I wish you and your family all the best and keep keeping up posted on your Dads and your progress!
Mike

RE: Oscar Results!!
Hi guys, been great reading all the comments! I must say that I personally hated the intvervals with Jonathan Ross and Co - I found myself very irritated by Rob Brydon he was such a repetative arse going on about the fact he wasnt gay when they were s`posed to be commenting on the actual awards! I personally would have liked to have seen Ruby Wax in on the line up - shes so full of it she would have lifted the mood. Am actually watching the highlights again - had to see the film reels - its amazing how they managed to intergrate crystals face on some of the LOTR`s snippets eps Gollum!! lol

Oscar Results!!
Hi Guys, stayed up all night and just finished watching the Oscars and I really enjoyed it!! I am so chuffed that LOTR`s swiped the board with 11 out of 11 oscars totalling that of Ben Hur and Titanic!! Finally the film (the trilogy as a whole) has been given the recognition it truly deserves - a long time due!!
Am also chuffed that Nemo won best animation but really there was no competition in my eyes. Thought Catherine Zeta Jones looked hot as did Sandra Bullock and most of the other actresses there!!
Thought the movie runs with Billy Crystal was also great as they have taken the idea from the MTV movie awards - Crystal as Gollum was funny!!
So guys what did you lot think of the results?
As a whole I am pleased with most of the results, Into the West is a fantastic song and I was surprised Cold mountain only won one Oscar as I really enjoyed the film much to my surprise!!
Post your views here!!
Cheers, Mike
