RE: mp3 players
I bought an Encore DVD-450 (enocredirect.co.uk) because it could do MP3. Reads anything that I`ve tried it with - CDR / CDRW both branded and unbranded, bit rates upto 196kbit (don`t have any higher) and VBR. Sound quality is pretty good, especially at 160kbit and up.
There are other machines out there that do the same thing such as the Aiwa 370 and the Scan (scan.co.uk). The reason I went for the Encore was it could do multi-region and macrovision off without hardware modifications and also does VCD and SVCD.
Anything else you need to know just ask......
Cheers,
Doobie!
RE: Encore 450 artifacts...
The firmware in mine is 3.3D which I think is the latest one. Like the Duck says I can`t see an upgrade fixing this.... If an upgrade got rid of macro then I`d be a bit happier.

RE: Encore 450 artifacts...
Thanks for the help Clayts and Ironduck thanks for the smart comments (have you nothing better to be doing, sir?).
TV has SCART in - not sure if it`s RGB or S-vid compat - will check this later. It has got an S-Vid connection on the side. I presume that will give the same quality as S-Vid through a SCART?
Encore 450 artifacts...
I`ve just bought one of these and am disturbed by the artifacts roaming around in the dark scenes... The only film I`ve tried so far is Final Destination if that makes any difference. Also, i was only connected via the three cheap phono leads that come with the player. Would a good quality S-Video cable get rid of the artifacts or is there anything else that would help (apart from dropping it out the upstairs window). The only reason I bought this machine was for the macro disable then after ordering it I hear there are problems with that too. Any help appreciated - and no I am not going to buy an Aiwa/Hitachi/Scan....
Cheers,
Doobie.
RE: SAVE HASSLE AND BUY A DECENT PLAYER!
Because none of the reputable names (bar Aiwa and one or two others) play MP3 discs, SVCD, multi-region (without chipping), macro off etc etc... If I could get a Sony that did all that I`d gladly pay £500 for it rather than an Encore/Scan/BloodyUnknownPieceOfSh*tBrand...
RE: copying dvds
you could also burn it as SVCD or mind DVD - quality is excellent - provided your DVD player can handle these formats. Have a look at www.vcdhelper.com - great site for this sort of thing...
RE: Scan letting me down
Well, this has turned me right off buying a Scan... I rang last week to order one but was told by some ignorant f*cker they were out of stock and try next week... That set the alarm bells ringing but the above has decided it.
RE: Is the Encore 450 good then?
What about the dodgy tray mechanism I`ve heard about??? I know a guy who got a black eye after his 450 flung the tray across the room at him. Maybe he was joking but is it safe???
RE: Is the Encore 450 good then?
But does it have Macro disable???
