panasonic dmr E55 dvd recorder play back problem with new dvds

after buying a copy of the the truman show on dvd at £4.99 i notice that the player gave a message of unsupported format when trying to play this disc.
after resetting the player with no joy..i decide to copy the disc which would removing encryption that had been installed
to my amazement the disc played on the panasonic player
to this i have conclude that the panasonic E55 cant handle the new sony encryption they are now using.
a part from copying the disc is there any firmware upgrades out there for the player???
has anyone else had this problem???

ok if you own this machine at present price at £179 at currys ,here is a region hack which DOES work to make this player multi-region
without disk in recorder, on remote press `setup`,
press `return`,
press `info`,
press numbers 8 8 8 then the required region (e.g. 1 or 4 or 0 etc) a message confirming will appear on screen, wait until it disappears... switch off and on again, setting saved

I have made mine region free (0) and it seems to have no problems playing zones 1, 4 and region 0 discs.

good little player,plays most formats vcd,mpeg files,however it is not regional hackable yet
has anyone found a hack for this player?...the good news is that this players plays copy dvds so instead of spent a whole night hunting for a hack ,i just copied the disc :p

philips 623..the lost hack

after getting a firmware upgrade from philips i was please to fine that my philips now plays MP3s...however this little box will still not play any region 1 discs ..all known region hacks WILL NOT work on this boxs. i have tried the 1111+0 ,the 159 hack ,the 0000+0 hack,i even have the 1 for all remote...ps my remote doesnt have a dvd option on it (one for all urc-2505)
so my region 1 disc now sit in their boxes waiting for the next hack that may work on this player.
my next option is to buy another player & use the the philip to play MP3s only ;)

after finding that 750 hack does not work with 623 player,is there a site where i can download a firmware that i can burn onto a cd ??
i have one for all remote upgradeable which wont generate the key,also 159 bring up the number but wont store the new code so my next option is a firmware hack...

i dont known if anyone has come accross this problem,but when playing back some vcd on this player the audio & picture will stop & start as if some one was playing with the pause.,ive tried the same discs on another player & they work fine..if this a firmware problem is there a patch out there??

ai have tried the remote hack 159 play which brings up the ----- on the player ,i have entered 222 222 005 255 & pushed play but the player is still only playing region 2 dvds
am i missing something out?
