Welltech 20654
If anyone interested in this neat Portable dvd player, not much larger than a prortable CD unit, then LIDL are selling it again :o on...

Thursday 8th April (2004)

for £59 :D

with a THREE YEAR manufacturers warranty :)

By the way I bought the DAEWOO multi region in the end & that suits me fine for the moment. ;)

RE: Buffy the Vampire Slayer - worth getting?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is more a Fun dark series & improves as the series progresses. It never takes itself too seriously & has some fun comical parts. There is even a musical ONCE MORE WITH FEELING series 6 episode 7, available as a separate DVD but more relevant if you followed the series. DVD box sets 1 & 2 are somewhat poor in quality but improve from series 3 & go widescreen from series 4. :D

See CD-WOW for some low box set prices http://www7.cd-wow.com, they run a very good service & free delivery to U.K. :)

For a brilliant MUCH DARKER Sci-Fi series with some fun comical touches try LEXX, Lexx the Movies, Lexx series 2 & Lexx series 3. The movies are great, the 2nd series GOOD but you have to be a fan to follow the 3rd series. Go to http://www.sadgeezer.com/lexx/ltreks.htm for detailed info & pictures also try http://www.lexxdirectory.co.uk/
There has been an offer in HMV for box sets at £12.99 but have a search on the net. :o

And finally for pure space Sci-Fi Comedy try RED DWARF well ahead of its time & still funny use www.sadgeezer.com for detailed reviews. :D

RE: Welltech Portable DVD 20654 - Hack?? Purchased from Lidl

Welltech DVD 20654. NOT A HACK more a fiddle i.e. confuse it! It may not work on all dvd`s or regions & you may need to repeat the sequence several times to get a result. If the player locks up remember the RESET pin hole (bottom right of PLAY PAUSE button on the front)

*All commands from the remote*.

With lid OPEN press *SET UP* - select PREFERENCES - select SMART NAV & select NO MENU - press *SETUP* .

Load up a Region 1 disc & when WRONG REGION appears - press *STOP STOP PLAY PLAY* - as STOP appears on a BLACK background - OPEN the lid - The DVD will slow down - Let it SPIN UP again & slow down then as it starts to SPIN UP again press *SETUP* & CLOSE LID. The SETUP MENU on a BLACK background should appear (see notes) - press *SETUP* again - PLAY on a BLACK background should appear - at this press *SKIP FORWARD i.e. >>I * & the 1st TITLE CHAPTER should appear & the dvd will play. From this you should then be able to access the MIAN MENU & have complete control.

notes :-

Obtaining a SETUP MENU on a BLACK background is the main objective of the above sequence. If it appears on a BLUE background you will have to repeat the above sequence, maybe several times.

If after pressing *SETUP* from the black SETUP MENU the screen is just BLUE with nothing happening just press *PLAY* & *SKIP FORWARD >>I* & the DVD should play.

If you have corrupted sound/video repeat the sequence a few times but if no luck try a RESET & start again.

If you want to see the ROOT MENU instead of playing the DVD set the SMART NAV to WITH MENU & it should appear on a BLACK background

info :-

I played a R1 Leon the Professional (uncut) many times (a brilliant film & direction. I recommend it), I played a R1 Little Shop of Horrors once & never again.
With practice you will get the knack of when to open the lid & when to press the set up key while the disc is spinning. It`s not rocket science but frustrating sometimes but great when the DVD plays.

Someone who is a lot cleverer may work out a better sequence with clues from the above & let us all know. I`m washed out with this now.

Good luck everybody! Your FEED BACK in this forum would be welcome & what DVD`s you managed to play from other regions (any R1 Buffy the vampire slayers work?).

Thanks to Ken for the R1 test DVD`s.

RE: Welltech 20654 Portable DVD Player - Purchased from Lidl

I purchased 1 of these & its a nic little machine. I wonder what generic platform it has to help with hack (Daewoo (IMO can`t find) phillips?).
On loading in a REGION 1 DVD & trying other DVD hacking methods & general hit & miss keystroke I did manage to open a SMART NAV1 menu with ROOT, JACKET-P, VIDEO-TS. Opening VIDEO-TS, folders appear DVD VIDEO-TS, DVD VTS-01-0, DVD VTS-01-1, VCD VTS-01-1/2/3 etc. On trying to play some of these & some more hit & miss keystokes I have managed to play a REGION 1 DVD TWICE with full control.
So it is possible to play other regions All I have to do now is methodically record what combinations reliably work.
Do any hack aces out there recognise the above menus on other DVD players to bring us nearer to permanent REGION HACK?
