RE: wharfedale 750s vs Dr Phibes

I have a 750s and moved to Canada two years ago. Obviously, everything I rent here is R1 yet I`ve never had a problem! You don`t even need a special transformer to convert 110V supply to 240V.

My new TV is NSTC (not UK PAL) and it still works.

The only problem I have is that I can`t playback R2 PAL disks on my NSTC TV. At least when/if I come home, I`ll be able to play my R1 NSTC disks on a UK PAL TV.

RE: hacks for wharfedale dvd750 please??

I have a 750s and it plays them fine. I don`t have to do anything special... just put the disk in and that`s it!

As far as I know, the 750 should be the same. Check out the following website and searcg "Wharfdale". It lists the compatibilty of your player.

RE: How much dosh was your first DVD player?

I too bought a Wharfdale 750s from Tesco`s for £179.99 in 2000 and it was the cheapest I could find at the time. I now live in Canada and it`s great because I`ve region hacked it so I didn`t have to buy a new player. That said, there are DVD player in Walmart for around $100 CDN (£45 ~ £50) that can be region hacked, play MP3 CD`s, play NSTC & PAL discs and output in either format, play Kodak Picture CD`s, read CD-R`s and CD-RW`s, play VCD`s, etc, etc, etc. OK, so you haven`t heard of their brand names before.... so what? If there`s one thing I`ve learned with DVD players it`s that more expensive isn`t necessarily better. Companies like Sony make DVD Player but also own the film and music companies. It`s not in their interest to make player `hackable`. The companies that make the cheap players don`t care about copying and hacks. In fact, they probably sell more players because they can read and output just about anything.

Wharfdale 750s PAL DVD to NSTC TV

I have moved to Canada from the UK. I`ve multiregion hacked my DVD Player and set the output signal to NSTC. I have had no problems playing any of the DVD`s I`ve rented here on my new TV. It will even plug directly into a 110V outlet without the need for a transformer. However, I have a few DVD`s that I bought in the UK (PAL) that won`t play on a NSTC TV. The manual says that you can play NSTC DVD`s on a PAL TV, but not PAL DVD`s on a NSTC TV. Is this true as the Wharfdale 750 & 750s seem to be capable of much more than the manual states?

If it`s not true then how can it be done?
If it is true then is there any way to convert a PAL output to NSTC?

Thanks in advance for any info.
