US TV shows - 2006 airdates - 24, Invasion etc
The United States is preparing a mass invasion of the UK's TV channels in January, with several genre shows expected to take part in the first wave of attacks on January 8th, 9th and 10th.
TGL advises UK genre television fans to unconditionally surrender to this invasion of our television channels.
Dominion Intelligence (and the superb Digital Spy website) has supplied TGL will the latest reports on how this invasion will proceed. Updated shows are in yellow:
24 - February 5th is the proposed date for the return of Jack Bauer on Sky One, for Day 5 of FOX's real time thriller series.
Prison Break - Likely to broadcast on Five from January 24th at 10pm.
Threshold - Currently showing on Sky One, but now cancelled stateside by CBS. Digital Spy reports that Sky will be showing all thirteen episodes. What went wrong with Threshold? Read my thoughts in the Great Link Productions Blog.
Alias - Bravo have brought the rights to show the fifth and final season in the UK. Broadcast date to be announced.
Bones - Season 1 on Sky One from January 12th
Battlestar Galactica - Season 2 on Sky One from Tuesday, January 10th - Sky One have begun showing the trailer for Season 2, you can read a description of it at the Great Link Productions Blog.
Charmed - Season 8 on Living TV from Sunday, January 8th.
NCIS - Season 3 on FX from January 13th.
Smallville - Season 5 (which is the best one so far in my opinion) starts on E4 from Monday, January 9th at 9pm, with Channel 4 expected to show episodes a week behind the E4 schedule.
Invasion - Season 1 on Channel 4 from Sunday, January 8th - Digital Spy reports that the first two episodes will be shown on this date, sandwiching episodes of Celebrity Big Brother.
Stargate SG-1 & Stargate Atlantis - Currently showing Seasons 9 and 2 respectively on Sky One. Due to Sci-Fi Channel's mid-season break, Sky usually pull ahead of the stateside episode schedule at some in December / January. However, the latest Xmas TV schedule indicate that this might not be the case for this year, will no all-new episodes for either SG-1 or Atlantis due to be broadcasted up to January 1st. That schedule is subject to change however.
Supernatural - Season 1 on ITV 2 from January.
Surface - Season 1 on ITV 2 from Monday, January 9th at 9pm.
The Inside - Cancelled stateside by FOX, on ITV 4 from January.
RE: HPat Goblet of Fire (probably spoilers inside)
did the superman returns trailer play before HP4 ?
SKy Plus PVR3 (80GB) not recording properly - any ideas ?
Hi,
just got a Pace 1.113, (PVR3 I think) with sky pus. It seemed to be working fine, but I think there is a problem with the recording. To test it, I set it to record 5 films and a couple of 1 hour shows. Not a problem, I thought, as the disc has space for 40 hours. (80gb). It worked great for the first 4. Then I went out, and the last film failed. It said `out of disc space`. Hmm. It also said something like 68% disk space free. So i set it to record a different film. this time, it works. Then tried another. It stopped after 30 mins - saying - part rec, out of disc space.
This morning I changed the recording to `manual`, so that it would stop when it runs out of space. It worked for the first 90 mins, and then I had to go to work. So I don`t know if its still working.
The box did get a bit of a knock (against carpet, I was moving furniture). Could that be it ? The menus, sound, picture are all working fine.
Anyone have similar problems with 1.113 ? How did you fix it ?
Thank you
RE: When will NTL be like SKY+ ?????!
is that how much it is ?
I pay 35 now with NTL, so it`s not that much more...
but then there is the new box to consider....
When will NTL be like SKY+ ?????!
The main feature I would like is a twin tuner. I would like to be able to record one digital channel, while watching another. For example, I want to set the video for a sky one programme on Saturday, and not have to worry that my flatmate might flick over to another non-terrestial channel, thus ruining the recording.
SONY VPL overheating - please help !!!
hi i have a sony VPL-CSI.
About 3 years old, one of those ones which were on special from PC world.
The problem is, after 2 or 2.5 hours of use it shuts off. The temp / fan light flashes.
The instructions say that means it needs to be repaired, because the fan is broken. But I`m not sure how that could be - If it`s broken how can it work fine for 2 hours + ?
I phoned Sony prime support, who said I should take the filter out and clean it in warm water, before drying throughly and replacing. Also run a hoover lightly over all vents.
Basically get rid of dust.
Will this work ? Or might there be a problem with the fans ?
all the vents are at least an 2 inches away from walls etc. Although it usually rests on books, maybe the underside vents aren`t getting enough air...
Any ideas ? This problem is really beginning to annoy me...I`ve used it for about 100 hours.
This problem occurred after about 40 hours...
Thanks!
RE: Star Wars about to be shipped by Play??
apparently luke`s lightsaber is green on the falcon only in the shots ripped from a dvd onto the net. The colour got changed in the compression, because it always looked wierd on film. So it shouldn`t (hopefully) be green on the actual DVD.
Also, greedo`s shot has been cleaned up, so it looks better apparently.
we`ll soon see...
although my play account also says `order placed` so maybe i won`t get it this week, grrrr
RE: Star Wars about to be shipped by Play??
just phoned play, they have the first batch. He said they will be sent out today and firs tthing monday morning. So if we`re lucky, either wednesday or thursday will be `a day long remembered`...
RE: in the future - no more multiregion ?
thanks for the advice. Your arguments make sense. Time to order that region 1 boxset of alias season 3 then!!
RE: in the future - no more multiregion ?
very insightful Anil !
Thanks for the advice Dan. Do you think the goverments of each region will crack down, and pass law saying that all companies will have to make sure their players can only play that region`s dvds ?
Or are they more concerned with pirated dvds / cinema releases ?
in the future - no more multiregion ?
hi,
I tend to get quite a few region 1 dvds, which play fine on my 6 year old pioneer 515 multiregion player. However, my rather brainy girlfriend, (who tolerates my dvd obession), pointed out that i shouldn`t get any more region 1 dvds, because when my next player might be protected against multiregion hack. What do you think ? In the next few years (and beyond) will we still be able to buy players which are already multiregion ? Will the remote control hack still work ? Or will the disks themselves be protected against this ? (i.e. more protected than region-free protection)
thanks
RE: Customs charges !!! please help....
thanks
anyone have any bad experiences ?
Customs charges !!! please help....
i`m thinking of ordering Alias season 3 from movietyme (only £29.99), but am worried about customs charges....anything over £18, yes ?
But i read somewhere in these forums that you hardly ever get stung by customs when using movietyme...
anyone order it (or any other tv boxset, eg homicide) yet ? what happened ?
thank you

The Chronicles of Riddick....first review...
and it`s glowing...from AICN`s Moriarty, who writes well, (unlike Harry), and whose opinions you can trust:
"Mark my words...Riddick is something special"

Can`t wait!!
RE: THE SHIELD SEASON 3
yes he was. Shane is the amusing dumb southerner
THE SHIELD SEASON 3
anyone know if it will be on five or on FX289 (only on SKY not cable) ?
They are going nuts over it in the states...
Apparently Shane, AKA Cletus Van Damme, gets even more outrageous and dumb than he is now...
Season 2 finale, with them all standing by the pile of money, was great.
RE: The Salton Sea
Yes, the Salton Sea is good. A bit slow at times, more like a 70s movie, but that is fine with me. I really felt for the Kilmer character, and the bad guy is trully repulsive.
Nice score to.
RE: Kill Bill 2 Teaser Trailer
a fun little trailer. Only a couple of seconds of actual footage, but it has me stoked. I love the back-projection, and the references to the movie advertising, from the main character !!! A great riposte to those who were up in arms about the film`s violence, it is obviously fake and not be taken seriously !!!
RE: `24` series 3 - starts february, not on BBC...
How do you download 24 series 3, (or any other program for that matter ?)
I have broadband ?
`24` series 3 - starts february, not on BBC...
but on sky one !!! Now we will get adverts !!!!! BBC to cheap to fork out ? Oh I know there spending all their (our) cash on rubbish like `Alfie Moon` , the beginning !!!
From Home cinema choice:
24` moves to Sky - including the new third series
Sky One has announced that it has acquired all UK broadcasting rights to one of the most innovative and successful drama series of recent years, 24 - with Series Three will be shown on Sky One exclusively in the UK from February.
Starring Kiefer Sutherland as CTU Agent Jack Bauer, 24 is unique in its portrayal of events in real time. Each episode covers 60 minutes, culminating in a 24-hour day over the course of a season. Series Three takes place three years after the events of the previous series, with President Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) seeking re-election for a second term. However, with the threat of a deadly and highly contagious virus being unleashed on the American public, he once again needs Jack`s help.
Thankfully Sky has also confirmed that Sky+ users will be able to set a series link to record the show to ensure a single episode is not missed!

RE: Amount of RAM needed for Broadband ?
Thank you, just printed out the beleriac stuff. Turns out my PC has 64 Mb, so will probably upgrade.
Amount of RAM needed for Broadband ?
I have just signed on for BT broadband, to be installed in a couple of weeks. The BT site says you need minimum 64 RAM for broadband, and I was told by a mate that all modern computers (mine`s 3 years old) has 64 MB.
Well, after right-clicking on `properties` it seems that my PC has only 63 MB. Should I look somewhere else ? Or can you get away with 63 RAM ?
If I really should upgrade to the recommended 128 RAM, what`s the easiest way ?
Thank you
RE: SLOGANS TO `WELCOME` GEORGE DUBYA TO THE UK
To Robert John shepard:
Yes,
I still do believe the reasons Dubya made. However, you are wrong on one point. Dubya NEVER said that Iraq was an imminent threat. What he said was `There are some who say we should wait until the threat is imminent`. Completely different. Our intelligence may have overestimated the amoutn of weapons he had, but we have discovered that he had the means to make weapons, which he would have done if sanctions were lifted.
RE: SLOGANS TO `WELCOME` GEORGE DUBYA TO THE UK
My slogan would read, welcome Bush, byebye Saddam.
I`m sorry but you guys are wrong on quite few points:
The war WAS legal. The resolution from the previous gulf war was still in force. We have been enforcing it for over a decade. (I have read numerous articles, and a friend of mine is a professor in International law.)
Resolution 1441 was presented so that the burden of proof was on Saddam. HE had to prove that he had gotten rid of his weapons. He did not do that. To give more time would mean letting him off the hook yet again.
When you say it was a war for oil, what do you mean ?
Are they going to steal the oil in aircraft carriers ? The fact is that the contracts for Iraqi oil cost $40 billion.(France and Russia were bidding for them). This war, and the reconstruction, will cost at least $200 billion. If it was for the oil, then buying it would be far easier.
And Bill Clinton told Blair not to underestimate Bush. (And clinton is partly the reason we are in this mess).
The Shield - Series THREE - On channel 5 in December...
so says my girlfriend who works in TV advertising, so she gets advance notice on TV schedules. Never been wrong yet. I thought series 2 was awesome, visceral addictive TV, building to an emotional and poignant finale. can`t wait !!!
RE: No WMD in Iraq?
The administration claimed that Saddam had used WMDs in the past, had hidden materials from the United Nations, was hiding a continued program for weapons of mass destruction, and that we should act before the threat was imminent. The argument was that it was impossible to restrain Saddam Hussein unless he were removed from power and disarmed. The war was legally based on the premise that Saddam had clearly violated U.N. resolutions, was in open breach of such resolutions and was continuing to conceal his programs with the intent of restarting them in earnest once sanctions were lifted. Having read the report carefully, I`d say that the administration is vindicated in every single respect of that argument. This war wasn`t just moral; it wasn`t just prudent; it was justified on the very terms the administration laid out. And we don`t know the half of it yet.
Saddam was lying to the U.N. as late as 2002. He was required by the U.N. to fully cooperate. He didn`t. The war was justified on those grounds alone. Case closed. Some of the physical evidence still remains, despite what was clearly a deliberate, coordinated and thorough attempt to destroy evidence before during and after the war. Among the discoveries:
* A clandestine network of laboratories and safehouses within the Iraqi Intelligence Service that contained equipment subject to UN monitoring and suitable for continuing CBW research.
* A prison laboratory complex, possibly used in human testing of BW agents, that Iraqi officials working to prepare for UN inspections were explicitly ordered not to declare to the UN.
* Reference strains of biological organisms concealed in a scientist`s home, one of which can be used to produce biological weapons.
* New research on BW-applicable agents, Brucella and Congo Crimean Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF), and continuing work on ricin and aflatoxin were not declared to the UN.
* Documents and equipment, hidden in scientists` homes, that would have been useful in resuming uranium enrichment by centrifuge and electromagnetic isotope separation (EMIS).
* A line of UAVs not fully declared at an undeclared production facility and an admission that they had tested one of their declared UAVs out to a range of 500 km, 350 km beyond the permissible limit.
* Continuing covert capability to manufacture fuel propellant useful only for prohibited SCUD variant missiles, a capability that was maintained at least until the end of 2001 and that cooperating Iraqi scientists have said they were told to conceal from the UN.
* Plans and advanced design work for new long-range missiles with ranges up to at least 1000 km - well beyond the 150 km range limit imposed by the UN. Missiles of a 1000 km range would have allowed Iraq to threaten targets through out the Middle East, including Ankara, Cairo, and Abu Dhabi.
* Clandestine attempts between late-1999 and 2002 to obtain from North Korea technology related to 1,300 km range ballistic missiles --probably the No Dong -- 300 km range anti-ship cruise missiles, and other prohibited military equipment.
Would you be happy, after 9/11, if Bush and Blair had allowed such capabilities to remain at large, and be reinvigorated, with French and Russian help, after sanctions were removed? I wouldn`t.
