RE: my schneider 857 won`t play home made dvd-rs

I`m using the same setup as you (Optorite DD0203 2.16 and Schneider 857) and have had no problems at all. Only difference is that I use DVD Shrink to author.

Have a look at clone.cd/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3552 for a great guide on backing up DVDs. Also clone.cd/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3405 for a list of DVD guides.

Hope this helps.

Schneider 857 Region Free Hack That Works

Actually I`m having you on, you don`t need a hack for this player as it is already region free.

I kid you not, the £99 player from Asda is region free. I just tried a region 1 disc I borrowed from a friend and it worked without any mods!!!

Rock on..!

RE: Schneider 857

Doesn`t work on mine.

RE: NEW SHNEIDER 857 FROM ASDA STORES

I bought one yesterday, just got a good feeling about it when I saw it. I don`t usually buy less well known brands but this unit is a cracker. I have tested it with R2 DVDs, VCDs, SVCDs, CDs, MP3 CD-Rs and it played them well. The only thing was that for MP3 CD-Rs you have to have all the tracks in the root as it doesn`t recognise sub-folders, don`t know how that compares with other DVD players. It claims to be Photo CD compatible but I haven`t tested that yet. It has a full compliment of outputs on the back for hooking up a 5.1 system including optical and is very configurable via the rather cool looking on screen menus.

In terms of quality, I thought it was superb. Easily matches any other DVD player I`ve seen and is noticeably better than the PS2/Region-X combo I was using before.

Oh, and it looks better than players costing 3 times as much.

Can`t find a region/macrovision hack for it yet but I think it`s too new. (It isn`t even listed on Schneiders web site yet)

I`d buy it if I were you.... but then I would say that!!!!
