RE: PLANET OF THE APES (2-disc) £12.99 @ WOOLIES

I bought a mint ex-rental of this from Blockbuster ages ago for £9.99.

It`s amazing how many people slated this film on it`s release. but everyone seems to want a cheap copy!

Such is life!

RE: Eight Legged Freaks Hooray !!!

Has anyone seen the roadside hoardings?

There is one near where I live which I saw on saturday. It had 2 huge model 3D spiders on the top of it!

However, they obviously weren`t fixed, cause when I passed on Monday morning, they`d been nicked!!!!!

Has anyone else seen these "3D" hoardings?

.....or did I dream it?????

No, ok then, back to sleep......

ZZZZZZZZZZZ.........ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.......ZZZZZZZZZZZ........

Yes the News of the world video incident was a bit of bad publicity, but at least our board backs the current manager (whoever that is at the time) with money to try and build a successful team.

RE: MOBILE PHONE TARIFFS????

My girlfriend and I both have Orange phones on their Talk 60 tarrif.

We get 60 mins free anytime calls to landlines and other Orange mobiles, and their call charges are the cheapest I have seen. Unused minutes are rolled over for one month.

This package does however cost £17 per month, and does not have inclusive SMS. Orange do offer `Text bundles`. If you pay a fee, you get an included amount of text messages, which work out about 3-5p cheaper than standard messages, depending on the qunatity in the bundle.

Check out www.orange.co.uk for more details.

Also, we got our phones from www.mobileshop.com and they do good packages which include free gifts and accessories. I got a free DVD player with my phone!....Also, all billing comes direct from Orange, not a third party such as Cellular Operations......avoid this billing company at all costs!!!

Hope this helps!

RE: Robbie Keane going to Sunderland?........

And Sunderland fans are the best in the world are they?????

Your club needs to give tickets away to local schools AND reduce prices for the so-called lesser matches to get the ground anywhere near capacity!!!!!

Sunderland probably do have ambition, it just isn`t very big ambition!
You were on the verge of qualifying for Europe for two seasons ( now shown as a false position)......did you buy any big names to build on this `progress`?.....NO...and that is why you slumped back to your true position last season.

Newcastle are a big club and will ALWAYS be considered a BIGGER club than Blunderland....How many world class players are you trying to sign?.....how many have signed for you in recent years?.....

Ours: Signed Ginola, Ferdinand, Asprilla, Robert, Shearer, Given, etc..
Linked with Rivaldo......does this not prove the difference in ambition between Newcastle and your so-called *big* club?????

Accept it, Your always gonna be considered the poor neighbours down the road......CHRIST, even Middlesbrough show more ambition than Blunderland!!!!!!

S.M.B.!!!!!!!!!

RE: Hard Disk Drive Problem

"Geordie - get yourself inside your computer and disconnect the HDD. Then start the machine again - if the noise has gone then at least you KNOW where it`s coming from. Then try removing the drive and have it operating outside the case. Also make sure all the cables are securely inserted. If, after doing all this, the drive still makes a nasty noise, THEN contact whoever sold it to you and ask for an RMA number to return it to them."....

Thanks for the advice Dan.

I have opened up the machine, disconnected, and reconnected the new HDD, and when disconnected the noise dissappears. When I reconnect and use the drive, the same high pitched `whistle` re-appears and is continuous while the machine is running.

I have contaced Ebuyer where I bought it, and they have said the drive should not make any high pitch noises, an it sounds like an internal failure. I have applied for a replacement drive and will be sending it back.

Thanks for everyones input, and sorry it was posted in the wrong forum.
I thought the Hardware forum was only for DVD/Home cinema related hardware.

Cheers

Hard Disk Drive Problem

I have just installed (5 days ago) a new IBM Deskstar GXP120 HDD.

Everything was fine until Monday night, I left my PC on overnight because I was downloading some music from the Internet.

The following morning, the computer was making what sounded like a high pitched whistling sound continuously while running, and has been ever since.

When I restarted the PC, the sound appears to come from the new HDD when it starts up.

Does anyone have any ideas why this may have happened, or whether the drive is safe to use?

It seems to be working fine reading and writing, and I have not lost any data (yet!).

Cheers in advance for any responses.

RE: England-Brazil : excuses for not going into work ?

How about, "England are playing Brazil in the Quarter Final of the World Cup.......See you on Monday"!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair, our company got a brand new TV in for the WC, but the reception is terrible due to where our office is located, so most people have been going in late, finishing early, and making the time up at weekends.

Also, the main boss is a mad keen footy fan which helps!!!

I`ll probably just be going in late on Friday, but if (hopefully when) we get through, the Semi-final is newxt wednesday 12.30 kick-off, so it`ll be an early finish that day!

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!

RE: BROADBAND BARGAIN!

Here is the message I received offering me the Braodband Trial from BT.
However, I don`t know if it specific to customers registered at BT.com, and the link may be tied to my customer details:

"Dear Sir,

BT Broadband will soon be here and a select group of our BT.com registered customers are being invited to trial it first. As a valued customer we would like to give you the opportunity to apply for the trial today.

With BT Broadband you can access the internet up to 10 times faster than a conventional connection. It`s `always on`, so you don`t need to dial-up, and you don`t incur call charges for being online. Plus, BT Broadband allows you to surf the internet and talk on the phone at the same time.

To thank you for being a trialist we`ll supply free equipment and waive the connection fee (saving you over £100) if you participate and provide us with feedback about this new service. The equipment is easy to install yourself.

The trial starts in April 2002 and runs to 19th June 2002. You only have to pay a monthly fee of £27 if you pay by direct debit or monthly payment plan (otherwise £28). These charges will appear on your normal telephone bill.

Once the trial period is over, you`ll be free to keep the equipment if you choose to stay connected to BT Broadband.

To join the BT Broadband trial please click http://www.bt.com/rc/bbtrial/?id=1618.384.1.999600246367 now and have your BT account details to hand. "

Give it a try, at the end of the day, they can only say no can`t they?

RE: BROADBAND BARGAIN!

I registered at BT.com a while ago, and this offer was sent to me via e-mail. It said as I was registered at the site, I was being offered this trial.

The message I got had a link to a specific page on the BT website, and I simply had to fill my details in. Don`t know whether the link was specific to me or not.

The message I got with the link is at work, I will post it here tomorrow, and you can give it a go.

RE: BROADBAND BARGAIN!

I have just begun a trial with BT to use thier new Broadband service, which they offered me via an e-mail promotion.
They gave me a free ADSL modem, and free connection, and the monthly fee is £27. The trial lasts for 2 months, then if I decide to stay on, I keep paying £27 a month, and keep the equipment. If not, I have to send it back.

Will see how it goes, but I have only ever used Freeserve on a 56K modem at home, so this is like going from a Ford Fiesta to a Ferrari!

RE: Scan SC-2500 Firmware Update

Scan SC-2500 Firmware Update

I have a Scan Sc-2500 DVD player, which I thought was one of the lucky ones, and was not suffering nay of the problems others have had.....

.....Until last night!

I have started to experience the remote button problem (buttons take on the function of the previous button pressed).

Does anyone know where I can get a reliable disk containing the up-to-date firmware, or some instructions for downloading and burning a disk myself?

I have Win XP, with Nero CD burning software.

Please Help!

Cheers

RE: Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition - 2 disc (R2) £10:99 at MVC

.....Update.....

I`ve just been to MVC in Newcastle, and got T2 UE (in the tin!) along with "The Gift" on 2 for £20!!!!

They had no T2 on display, but when I saw it on a poster, I asked the assistant, and he told me they had at least one behind the counter, which he sold me.....

......Why aren`t they on the shelves?

Anyway, I got mine!

MJ

RE: Terminator 2 Ultimate Edition - 2 disc (R2) £10:99 at MVC

Future Entertainment have TS UE R1 for £14.99 posted.

They also have SWEP1: Phantom Menace R1 for £12.99 posted.

RE: HMV new sale....

"Try clicking on the `Other DVDs from £4.99` link on the first page"

That just takes you to the `DVD Clearout` sale that been going on for weeks.

Might visit the Newcastle store at lunchtime to check it out!

RE: Man bites dog

Channel 4, tonight (29-04-02), at 11.35pm.

Haven`t seen the film, but judging by the comments posted, might be worth a look!

BTW, is it Subtitled, Dubbed, or in English?

RE: PS2 for £99!!

It turned out that there was no price reduction after all!

I started a thread on this forum spreading the rumour, so I`ll wipe the egg of my face!

Anyway, a possible theory on how it started may be that Dixons/Currys are advertising a PS2 for £99, on the condition that it is bought in a package with 5 games, for a total price of £299.

Therefore, technically the PS2 `is` £99, but to get it for that price, you have to pay £200 for 5 games (£40 each).

The 5 games are from a choice of 16, but there wasn`t anything to shout about!

I`ll be waiting to see if there is an official reduction from Sony once the other console sales are measured.

Sky Digi Remote Codes

*Apologies if this is in the wrong section....please move to General if necessary*

Anyway...

I have a Goodmans 289NS TV set (28" Nicam).

Does anyone know of the correct, working code for the Sky Digital remote to operate this TV set?

I have contacted Sky, and used the interactive system to find the code, but the code(s) they offer does not work correctly.

The best I can get is that the channel up and down buttons do not change the channels, and the volume up button changes the channel down!......All of the number keys do however change the channels.

Has anyone had any luck with the codes from Sky, or does anyone have the same set, and a different code that works?

Cheers

RE: Want to buy Goodfellas DVD but...

I`m fairly new to DVD also, so pardon my ignorance but, what is a `flipper`?

I imagine it is a disc which is two sided and has to be flipped, but does that mean the film is on two sides with a break in the middle, or is the film on one side, with any extras on the other side?

Cheers

MJ

RE: Scratched DVD`s

I read something in a music (Q) magazine a while ago about something similar for music CD`s.

It is supposed to be available from music stores, such as HMV, and I think it is like a polish which fills in any fine scratches which the laser may catch and skip on.

Cannot remember what it was called unfortunately, but it will be available from large music/cd outlets.

Another option for new discs is a protection film that is applied to the read side of the disc. These are clear CD sized discs so the disc can still be read. These are also available form music stores.

Hope this helps!

RE: Liverpool hoping for Man Utd win?

Ah, Lee Clark!......He may joined Sunderland, but we forgive, just for THAT T-Shirt!

MJ

RE: Liverpool hoping for Man Utd win?

Never mind the title race!......what about the bottom of the table?

I`m praying for an Ipswich result against Man Utd tomorrow....unlikely, I know, but that plus a Charlton win against the Makems (Sunderland), and it`ll make for a very nervous last day on wearside!!!!

As you might guess from this, and my username, I`m a Newcastle supporter, and nothing would cap this season better, than us being in the champions league next season, and the SMB`s being back in Division One, where they belong

TOON ARMY FOREVER!

MJ

(SMB - Sunderland fans will know what this means!)

RE: PS2 price reduction?

Of course we are....it`s party time!

Last time we had an end os season party, we thrashed Leicester 7-1!!!!

Bring on the Hammers, we want revenge for that result down there last September!

RE: Do we really want Celtic and Rangers in the Nationwide League?

"keep the english league for the english" ......

.....I don`t know much about the history of the football leagues, but how were teams like Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham, or any other Welsh teams allowed to play in English football?

There are still welsh football leagues (League of Wales), but these `bigger` teams play in the Nationwide. There must have been a system where these bigger clubs were allowed to be promoted into `English` Football?

I am not saying Rangers and Celtic should be allowed to join the Nationwide, but if `bigger` welsh teams are allowed, why not allow Scottish teams?

And, If Celtic and Rangers are allowed in, where will they be entered?....Straight into Division 1 to try for the premeiership, or into Division 3 to fight from the bottom?

I think if they are allowed, they should start at the bottom.....true pedigree will see them up to Division 1 within 2 years!

Also, Berwick Rangers.....they play in Scotland, but there are arguments that Berwick is in England!

Confused....I am now!

Cheers

MJ
