RE: Is there a way round the RCE crap?
Its true what Smiler says. As we all know, competition is bad for the market since it causes higher prices from manufacturers needing to compete.
If there was no competition at all, I`m sure that there would be more money, and because the manufactuerers are so grateful for the public for supporting them that they would forgo some of their profits to make the discs better or reduce prices.
RE: Recording from DVD to Video.
Macrovision is built into the players, but shoudl only be turned on when the DVD asks for it.
This doesn`t sounds like a MV problem though. Are these region 1 or region 2 discs? Very few videos wil record an NTSC signal. See if you can force your player to convert to PAL.
RE: please help macrovision doing my head in
Apparently there is no MV hack. You can get gizmos to block the signal though. Plug it between the DVD player and the VCR. A little quality is lost, but that won`t show at VHS quality
RE: Regional Coding Enhanced - Player Problems Expected
I`d argue that the discs ARE faulty. They are sold as region 2 discs. My DVD player will play all region 2 discs, as well as all region 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 discs, and has never yet had a problem. Obviously this disc has been deliberately broken by the manufacturer.
And while we`re at it, play247 really should have a better returns policy. I`m sure there`s fair trading laws relating to this sort of thing, but I have no idea how they apply to Jersey.
RE: NTSC compatible TV? Panasonic hybrid
Its probably PAL60 compatible as well. All Panasonics seem to be so there`s no real reason this shouldn`t. Just try fiddling around with the instalation options and see if you can set it to NTSC.
RE: Help with Copyright Issue
This is probably covered by the same rules that allow a reviewer to quote passages from books. Its probably legal as long as you don`t put too many shots up. Don`t think its ever been tested in court though.

RE: Limit JDV300A region 1 Hack any ideas?
According to a usenet posting,
press eject, then 8, 9, 2, 6 then region.
Press 9 for all regions.
Let me know if it works.
