SplashDVD - shedloads of bargains
Didn`t see anyone has posted this before - maybe you all know already?
28 catagories of bargains, so plenty to wade through. Here`s a few: Dr Strangelove £7.99, Monty Python £7.99, Music DVDs (Ministry £5.99, Orbital £9.99, Red Hot Chili Peppers £9.99...) Lots of martial arts, inc Dr Wai £5.99. Don`t all come up in dvdpricecheck.co.uk though, so worth checking the old fashioned way.
Boxed Sets only contains the Matrix despite email claiming more. It`s £17.99 rather than £40.99 though if you care for a second copy ; )
Lawrence of Arabia @ Virgin
Virgin and HMV are both having a sale at the mo` (as most of you are aware), only this time there is much on sale cheaper than you can get elsewhere. Best I found was Lawrence of Arabia for £9.99 in Virgin. It`s £12 in HMV and about £15 elsewhere.
Close Encounters @ DVDplus
Just ordered double disc of Close Encounters for £9.99 at DVDplus. There are others on offer, but this is the best and couldn`t find a match elsewhere.
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
www.bensonsworld.co.uk are giving this away free (you do have to pay P&P of £1.50 though). From the email circular it seems you get it in a cardboard sleeve unless you buy something else, in which instance they put it in a proper DVD case. They`ve got a few cheapies on the go too, though these are probably no cheaper than elsewhere. Can`t find anything about it on their website though...
RE: Tesco price change!
Since when was paying even the average price "good value for money"? If you`re more interested in getting your purchase immediately than saving money there are still cheaper places than Tesco.
RE: Britannia DVD Bargain !!!
I`m sure the law is quite clear on matters such as Brittania - if they send you something which you haven`t ordered, you are entitled to presume it is a gift since you didn`t request it in the first place. You are neither obliged to pay for it, nor return it if you`ve told them. If they want it back, tough; they shouldn`t have sent it out in the first place. Check out www.tradingstandards.net, or better still go here:
http://www.devon.gov.uk/tradstds/notes/faq.html
Perhaps Brittania can still screw you if there`s a contract involved, but I think they must still pay postage (see above). If everyone practiced their rights, they would stop all their nonsense.
I hope I don`t get anyone into trouble for this! Please seek proper legal advice first (emailing Trading Standards should do the job).
RE: PLAY 247 PROBLEM
Shadowze - have you contacted your credit card company about it? You say the card`s ok, but it doesn`t sound like it is to me. Have you another credit card you could try? There are so many these days with next to no interest that it`s worth having more than one just in case. I think the CC company`d be interested incase any other of their customers have had similar problems and might walk. Play has always worked fine with my NatWest M/C and Visa, and RBS Switch (though this one`s too easy to get carried away with and hurts immediately).
RE: PLAY 247 PROBLEM
Jings, crivvens, help ma boab... why are so many people flaming Play so hard?
"I ordered the biggest selling (and hence most in demand) DVD during the busiest time of the year and it took ages to arrive"... really? And this surprised you?
"It said that they had it in stock but now they say they don`t"... another astounding piece of news. Unless their website is actually linked to their stock checking system and can take into account the thousands of other orders they will possibly have had on the same day, there will always be the chance of error on their system. That`s the internet for you. Ok, so if your order hasn`t arrived when expected by all means contact them - this is a good way for the company to see the weaknesses of the system, so perhaps they will order more stock next Christmas (of little help to you now, but perhaps next time...) - if they give you a reason which is perfectly understandable, don`t start whining like a baby. Let`s not forget that the DVD is the fastest growing electronic entertainment system in history, so it`s unlikely that many companies will have expected such demand. It didn`t happen for laserdisc.
I`ve always been impressed by Play247. When I preordered the Rocky Horror Picture Show double disc, it arrived on my door mat on the morning of release. All other orders have been fine, and let`s not forget, cheaper than many other places. Before you ask, no, I don`t work for them. Incidentally, Bensonsworld has always been cheap and fast too - especially on the Classic film front (which neither BJD or PH will ever be considered - ooh, back in the knife drawer!).
