RE: Alba DVD 109 - no hacking required for vcd & svcd
Sorry, don`t know about any region hacks for the 109.
RE: RGB Set Up Help!!
bowl,
"Or buy an RGB to S-VHS convertor ? A wee box for around £30."
Where can you buy one for £30. The one in the link you provided is a lot more than that :-(

RE: RGB Set Up Help!!
I might be wrong but my guess would be that the rgb configuration on your TV was not setup correctly in the factory. My Sharp 32" 100Hz flat screen TV suffers from a rather dull RGB image and I am forced to use S-video which produces a far better image.
RE: RGB Set Up Help!!
If you are getting a green hue but still seeing Red & Blue in the picture then all three connections (Red green and blue) are connected and you are probably not doing anything wrong. This may mean that there is a problem with you RGB input on your TV or less likely the RGB output from your DVD player.
If you are ONLY getting green then it as if the Red and Blue connections are missing. This maybe because DVD player is only outputing composite video (it uses the green connection to do this), or the TV connection is not really accepting RGB correctly.
Is there a setting in for the TV scart connection in the menu somewhere that allows you to configure the scart as composite/rgb ???.
Alba DVD 109 - no hacking required for vcd & svcd
Just been to Argos to buy 3 Alba 108 for xmas presents. Had a 20% off voucher which meant they only cost me £56 a piece !!!!.
Anyway I was aware that it may be substituted for a different model and I ended up with 3 Alba dvd 109 players :-(
Anyway, apart from looking cheap campared to the 108 it plays VCD & SVCD straight out of the box as well as MP3 and DVD.
The only drawback I can see is that it has no s-video output and only has co-axial digital output for audio.
THE QUESTION I NEED TO ASK THOUGH.
Does anyone know of any problems that the 109 may have ?
The ones I bought will not be used til Xmas and I wouldn`t like to give my relatives duff gear (or would I !!!).
RE: RGB Scart connection - Picture Quality (novice)
Although RGB is techinically better than s-video Some televisions seem to produce a better picture when used with s-video. You need to try both types of connections to see which gives the best picture.
If you are happy with s-video quality then you could connect the dvd using this signal and your Sky box using the rgb connection. (I am assuming that one of your other scarts accepts s-video).
Both of these signals are better than using composite video
Have a search through the forums for discussions on rgb vs. s-video to see other peoples opinions on which is best
RE: XBOX + import TAX
What if the item is sold as `second hand equipment` , would that avoid any Duty ?
The value of the item would be hard to determine so it would be harder to impose TAX on it.

RE: Coaxial and Composite leads, Are they the same????
I totally agree with Mike G
RE: XBOX + import TAX
> Gifts sent to England from other country`s are tax exempt.
Thanks for the reply cw2000. I stand corrected on the above comment that I made.
However, the item I recently purchased from the USA cost $290 but when I received the parcel it was marked as a $15 gift on the label.
Do you know what customs would do if they had opened the package and realised the goods were worth more that $15 ?
RE: XBOX + import TAX
Some American retailers deliver products marked as gifts rather than mechandise. Gifts sent to England from other country`s are tax exempt as you have not theoretically purchased the item. I guess that even though it is marked as a gift there still might be a chance that you have to pay Tax.
I haven`t had much experiance in this but I recently received a `gift` tax free without any problems.
RE: What`s the best Low Price DVD multi-region hackable player about at the MO
have a look thru the forums at the Dansai dvd player from Tesco`s. should do what you wan`t.
RE: Remote control conflicts
I think you are stuck with this problem. I can`t see why the Pronto would solve the issue when all it is going to do is clone the original remote control, therefore cloning the problem.
RE: just been to tesco s no dansai 852 but ?
I saw the package in Tesco at Scunthorpe
It looked the same as the mail order offer @ http://www.ddwithjb.com/
(stands for www . Deal Direct with Jeremy Beadle . com)
They state
"This remarkable offer is brought to you by Deal Direct - one of the UKs biggest DVD mail-order companies established 5 years and the huge Prism Leisure Corporation PLC - the leading UK distributor and publisher of DVDs, chart and catalogue CDs, cassettes, videos and computer software.
Trusted by major retailers and thousands of independent shop owners across the UK, we bring you the hottest money saving deals backed up with world class customer service - all thanks to over 120 staff working from our state of the art call centres and 40,000 square foot warehouse."
RE: Dansai 852 - Problems with CD-RW
CDRW OK on my machine.
I did have trouble with vcd cdr which wouldn`t load. Tried various discs and once I got one to work all the other vcd`s worked. I had to power off Dansai a few times before I had any success.
RE: Optical cable splitter?
Try Mail order company `CPC` Tel number 08701 20 25 30
They have an adaptor that splits one source into two outputs or two inputs into one source (as long as only one of the devices is powered up at once). The part number is AV03526 and cost £6.22 + vat + del.
You could also try www.keene.co.uk . They might sell a optical switch box capable of connecting more than 2 devices. I think I saw one somewhere that could be controlled by remote.

RE: HELP!!!!! DVD players That can FWD/RWND MP3?
Try the DANSAI 852 player from Tesco`s. It does all of the things you want including FF and RW of mp3`s. Costs £99 something and picture quality is fine. Also can be hacked for region free and Macrovision disable. Look at forum for availability, hard to get hold of as they are sold out in many of the stores.
Dansai DVD player - sound problems with mp3`s
I have been experiancing problems when playing mp3`s in combination with the `3D surround` button on the remote control.
If I select 3D surround then cycle through the modes until the 3D surrond is switched back off, the sound becomes poor/distorted.
To fix the problem I have to switch the DVD player off then back on.
A neighbour of mine who purchased a Dansai at the same time also has the same problem.
Does anyone have the same problem or know of a cure ?
