Portable sound is logical captain

Introduction

One way of making portable speakers is to try and make them as small as possible.

Another method is to try and make them reasonably small, but then come up with something else to save space. Making them fold up to occupy less space is one way of doing things.

And that's just what the Logic i-Station Go does. It's a folding set of speakers.

It comes with a built-in 3.5mm audio cable which should work with most MP3 players, iPods and iPhones. It also comes with a handy little bag to store it in when in transit

Operation

Pretty simple really. Insert 4 x AAA batteries (supplied!) Plug in an audio source using the built-in 3.5mm cable. Switch it on, fire up your tunes, and prepare to be impressed.

Sound Quality

Right, let's be clear about this. It's not a KEF speaker. It's not a Mission speaker. It's not an "insert name here" speaker. It's a travel speaker with 2 x 32mm neodymium drivers. It's as about as big as the palm of your hand (when it's folded flat). And it generates around 4 watts of sound. So as I've said many times before, don't expect reference quality audio where you can sit and stroke your chin whilst placing every single note of every single instrument in whatever piece of music you're listening to. You won't be able to sit there and pick out the nuances of a bass clarinet.

What you do get is pretty damn good performance from a small travel speaker. In fact it's probably the best performing of the three that I've looked at recently (the other two being the X-Mini II "electric satsuma" and the Cygnett Micro). As usual, I chucked various different styles of music from my eclectic collection at the i-Station Go, and nothing really tripped it up. Spoken word material (podcasts and radio comedy shows - I listen to a lot of them) also sounds fine.

Conclusion

A superb bit of kit at a competitive price (you can buy it for around 20 pounds online). Like I've said about similar units, it's not going to astound you with its faithful reproduction of musical works. But it will allow you to listen to your music, films, laptop or whatever whilst you're away from your normal speaker systems. Of the three systems I've looked at this year, it's certainly the best performing, and the loudest with its 4 watts of output.

Again, as with the other portable speakers that I've seen, it comes in most handy when camping or travelling anywhere where you need something small and light. The folding design is very good

A cracking little speaker. Recommended for anyone who wants a little bit of sound when on the go! It would also make a very good Xmas present!

Your Opinions and Comments

By way of follow up, I've used these nearly every day for the last year now, and they've travelled around various camp sites and other holiday destinations in that time. Still going strong, and still great little travel speakers.

The battery life has been pretty good too - I haven't got through mountains of batteries and am trying to think when I last changed them. Probably October.
