A mini-series charting the events of the Cherobyl disaster. Starring Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard and Emily Watson. Will be shown on HBO and Sky Atlantic in May.

I've been looking forward to this for a while. It looks really good!

Want to see that. A lot guys gave their lives to trying to stabalise the structure and died soon after from radiation. A new massive container hanger has been wheeled over the site recently to contain yet more radiation escaping.

The worst thing is that the casualty figures due to radiation suring that ecplosion will never be known as it blew all over Europe including us here in the UK, and deaths through cancer from then to now cannot physically be traced back to that inccident, but likely did cause many thousands of deaths since and more to come.

This is the problem with nuclear powerstations having the hidden dangers of radiation due to leaks and spills and meltdown, andĀ  the crazy thing is they are still making them today.

After the above, three mile island USA, and the Japan fukushima inccident you would thinkĀ  they should be tottally banned.

Should be a cheery distraction from brexit.

On a side issue, here is the new shield that has been built and moved into position over the damaged reactor......

The first episode is already relentlessly grim and terrifying, and pretty disturbing if this in any way accurate (by all accounts, it is).

Can't wait to see the rest unfold. Hopefully they included the helicopter incident (I was surprised to learn that there is actual footage of it on youtube).

The second episode is absolutely riveting as well. The increasing crackle of the dosimeters in the final scene was just heartstopping. I simply had to look up what happened next.

The best thing on TV in a long time.

I didn't realise they were a couple of days away from pretty much laying waste to mainland Europe.

.....And they are still making them, including in the UK, and Chinese to boot, who knows what hidden 'meltdown' commands will be in the software. {excuse my paraniod thoughts :D}

Note that Australia totally banned them from being built, and so there are none there.

As for this TV show, it is riveting.

Don't even know if they're going to build any of those new reactors here - everyone seems to be pulling out because of the massive cost risk. It would also mean that we would have to guarantee very high prices well into the future for the power they would produce at a time when the cost of renewables is tumbling year on year - let alone the cost of dealing with the nuclear waste for hundreds of years to come.
