Have to agree with you mbilko, it is really getting good.

Its just like new episodes of ST TNG, only thankfully without the so 1980's need for a shrink, (so far), ie, counselor Dianna troi type character analysing everyone on board ship,

CGI and backgrounds are still well up to ST TNG standaeds.

This episode, 'If the stars should appear' I am sure I have seen this type of story before in one of the previous Star Trek's, in a Dyson Sphere or other such enclosure.

One of my favourite episodes. I recall them having to use the Enterprise's shield to hold the door of the sphere open for some reason

After growing tired of Family Guy and even American Dad, and pretty much disliking all of McFarlane's theatrical output, I've been pleasantly surprised by this. Has a really great, nostalgic 80s/90s Trek feel and, a few sub-par Galaxy Quest inspired jokes aside, is largely played straight. It deals with some pretty heavy themes as well.

Watched the fifth episode 'Pria', and it had a new phenomena I had not seen before in Star Trek, and shows the script writers are really on the ball, with interesting new stuff.....

SPOILER:
Dark matter asteroid field, requiring a spray of particles from the Orville to physically see them and avoid.

Sixth episode, 'Krill', just a fantastic episode, the Aliens look far better than the new Klingon's on ST Discovery, and they talk American, and so funny using SPOILER:
Avis
as the aliens God (you will understand this when you see the show), so funny and yet the next minute can be so serious and 'on the edge of your seat' as well.

This show is now light years ahead of ST Discovery, stories are far superior and is far more treky in origonal style and format. Which most trekies will love.

Episode 'Majority rules'

What can I say, this was some away mission, way beyond ST TNG script writers could imagine, as its now using the 21st century mentality (of our time, which is social media).

With the modern day phenomena of social media, this is an alien planet (not unlike ours) that takes social media and instant video taking on mobile phones to the next level, becoming the way of judging and condemning a person in an instant.

One of the funniest episodes so far, regarding....

SPOILER:
Dry Humping a statue
Completely disregarding the prime directive
Away team trying uselessly to keep undercover
The button pressing system of red and green (if someone gave me a red, I would have decked them and gave them ten reds )

i liked the way they used russian trolling to save them, genius writing again and really is a top class sci-fi show and forgetting about the comedy side

I agree the one off jokes might be a bit overdone, but I think the comedy makes it, as for example in this very episode, where it required a crew member to do something daft and comical, and thus get into a lot of bother.

I do not see Picard and company, or even Kirks crew get into such stupidity on away missions, and that's what makes it fun

Exception.... Kirk was usually up to his 'kissing the girl' troubles

Well episode 8, I'm not sure if its a short season because suddenly we are getting ads for season 2, hoping its just a bit premature and hopefully we will get at least 12 episodes before 2nd season. Anyhow, episode 8 rocked, Isaac and the boys was a hoot from start to finish and the interaction with the metal man and doc was surprisingly tender.

The first season will be 13 episodes and will end in December.

Usually a network will order 13 episodes for a new show and then if it is successful, they will order a further 9 episodes (known as a "back 9" deal).

However, The Orville was originally planned as a 13 episode mini-series, so rather than trying to extend the first season, they went ahead and renewed it for a second (likely to begin next September). They renewed it two days ago so that's probably why you've read about it.
