The pilot is absolutely brilliant! Somehow they've managed to perfectly nail the darkly comic tone of the film and everything from the performances (especially those tricky accents) to the cinematography and the music is excellent!

I'm going to be saying "Aw, jeez!" for weeks :D

Renewed for season 2.

Quote:
At the Television Critics Association fall previews on Monday, Fargo creator Noah Hawley announced the time period for the second season. "If you were paying attention to Season 1, we made a lot of reference to Sioux Falls, [South Dakota]. That was not an accident," he said. "It will take place in 1979 and take place around ... Luverne, Minnesota and Fargo and Sioux Falls."

In the first season, cop-turned-diner owner Lou Solverson (Keith Carradine) often mysteriously referred to a major incident that occurred back in Sioux Falls. At the time, he was 33-years-old and recently back from the Vietnam War. "Lou Solverson is a state police officer. His wife Betsy, her dad is the sheriff of Rock County," Hawley said. "[Lou's] father-in-law is a character in this next go-round. I don't know if we see any other Solversons... I'm excited to spend time with Molly's mom." He also added that Molly did not get her plucky spirit only from her dad.

One more character from Season 1 will travel back in time to Season 2. Lt. Ben Schmidt (Peter Breitmayer), who was the commanding officer of Gus Grimley (Colin Hanks), was also at Sioux Falls during that time.

Just finished the last episode, apart from the middle of episode 8 which dragged a bit (I appreciate why and what it was doing had to be done), really enjoyed it.

Really didn't want a second season, until I read what you just posted Gareth, about it being set in 1979. Now I don't mind one. :)

Allison Tolman's bio on IMDB is funny and worth a read!

Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons (the Matt Damon lookalike from Breaking Bad) have joined the cast for season 2. Apparently Nick Offerman was also offered a role, but he has yet to sign on.

Quote:
Dunst will play “Peggy Blomquist,” a small town beautician with big city dreams who is trying to figure out who she really is and what she really wants as she struggles with traditional societal expectations. She shares her home with her husband “Ed” (Plemons), a butcher's assistant, who wants to be supportive of his wife’s self-discovery, even if he doesn’t quite understand it.

Fargo’s new chapter, which will unfold over the course of 10 episodes, will travel back to 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota, where a young State Police Officer “Lou Solverson” (yet to be cast), recently back from Vietnam, will tackle an all new “true crime” case. Solverson’s wife, “Betsy,” (yet to be cast) their four-year-old daughter, “Molly,” (yet to be cast) and fellow officer, “Ben Schmidt,” (yet to be cast) will also be featured in the new installment.

Season 2 will be 10 episodes again, and will air in autumn 2015.

Personally, I never understood the hate that Dunst attracts. I can't wait for this to air!

First episode aired last night (next monday on C4). It's pretty much the same quality as the first season, which is to say deliciously dark, funny and with endlessly watchable characters.

Officially renewed for a fourth season, starring Chris Rock:

Quote:
In 1950, at the end of two great American migrations - that of Southern Europeans from countries like Italy, who came to the US at the turn of the last century and settled in northern cities like New York, Chicago - and African Americans who left the south in great numbers to escape Jim Crow and moved to those same cities - you saw a collision of outsiders, all fighting for a piece of the American dream. In Kansas City, Missouri, two criminal syndicates have struck an uneasy peace. One Italian, one African American. Together they control an alternate economy - that of exploitation, graft and drugs. This too is the history of America. To cement their peace, the heads of both families have traded their eldest sons.

Chris Rock plays the head of one family, a man who - in order to prosper - has surrendered his oldest boy to his enemy, and who must in turn raise his son's enemy as his own. It's an uneasy peace, but profitable. And then the head of the Kansas City mafia goes into the hospital for routine surgery and dies. And everything changes. It's a story of immigration and assimilation, and the things we do for money. And as always, a story of basically decent people who are probably in over their heads. You know, Fargo.

Doesn't really sound like Fargo tbh, and season 3 was pretty weak :\
