Listening to the drivers talking about ultra softs and hyper softs and just waiting for a team manager to break ranks and go with the fluffy kittens.

I used to watch F1, loved it best when it was Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Prost, Schumacher. That kind of era. I haven't watched it in years though, long before the rights fell out of public broadcasting, and I was wondering why...

Then I saw this news and remembered.

For a long time now, F1 has been a case of a team finds a way to make their car faster, and the FIA promptly bans it. What's the bloody point!? I though F1 was supposed to be the cutting edge of innovation, but not any more.

It isn't banned until next season and to be honest next season is when the car regulations take a massive change from new low profile tyres with larger wheels to standardised parts aimed to make mechanical rather than aero grip more important. Bigger brake discs and bigger chassis so taller drivers aren't penalised and simplified suspension systems. There are many more changes too.
I think it will be interesting to see if this mod give Mercedes a boost as it will obviously add weight but ultimately will anyone copy it?

I always treated formula 1 as nearest thing to a gladiator sport, as many are there to see some poor sod crash and burn, maybe that's why we all watch it.
