I'm in my 40s, have one of my skateboards, and got another on freecycle for the girls. Every now and again I want to have a go, for old time's sake, and old school mate suggested we go out, but I pointed out to him, that unlike before, if I injure myself now it will take along time to heal, and depending on how bad I hurt myself, my boss, or the boss (if you see what I mean ;) ) will kill me!

The girls have started skateboarding lessons, no tricks yet, just the basics, the other week I decided to try a simple trick I used to do, fell over, didn't hurt myself badly, but enough to put me off, can't bounce back up and get back on like I used to, or can I?...

You know that video you linked of Tony Hawk trying to repeat this stupid trick from years ago again as a much older being? And that sheer determination on his face that no matter what or how much it hurt he was going to do it?

It's an interesting thing about skateboarding and social media. years ago, teams would release a video, and on that video, you would get a slam section or 2 featuring the best/worst failed attempts, so a lot of the time you'd only see the successes.
now sometimes you'll get a skater showing a video, 5 minutes of them trying the same trick over and over again, but they just won't give up!
I suppose it's a bit like pigheadedness fighting the big boss in a video game, you've got this far, you're not quitting till you conquer the rail/ramp/gap/whatever :)

I do running, including my first half marathon recently, but I've never ran so hard I felt like throwing up, or ran with painful blisters. Pushing through the pain requires a type of person I am not. :)
