WHY IS BLACKSTAR SO EXPENSIVE?

webryder (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 10th January 2002, 00:15

hi guys, i was wondering who ever uses blackstar for their purchases? I have NEVER seen a good bargain on there...looking through their sale list, most sale prices are for things i wouldnt even CONSIDER buying, and if i did, i wouldnt at THAT price! Anyone else feel that way?

Blackstar`s prices used to be very good, but I seem to recall that they weren`t making enough money and so needed to do something about it.

They do have some bargains now and again, but I would imagine most of their customers go there for their customer service or don`t know about other, cheaper e-tailers.

They used to offer a flat 20% off all preorders (DVDs and VHS) so were very competitively priced. However as Rich said they were suffering financially so in Autumn 2000 this was reduced to only 10%. Also by making postage extra confuses people into thinking they are cheaper than they are at first glance.

Therefore why shop there use Play instead.

It`s a shame, really - I used to use Blackstar for VHS (well before I had a DVD player!), and they were very good - their customer service was (and could be still) second to none. I remember a few years ago receiving a free copy of the classic "It`s a Wonderful Life" for merely being a customer.
