Amazon Guaranteed Xmas Delivery

andy.c (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 6th January 2008, 23:38

Hi,

I ordered from Amazon using free super saver del guaranteed del for xmas for an ipod for an xmas present.

They never came through and i did not get it until the friday after xmas.

I complained but got a rubbish standard email with a crappy pointless appology.

Anyone else get screwed by them?

Is it worth complaining again for any compensation, i know i did not pay for delivery so they cant refund this, but if they `guaranteed` xmas delivery when using this method they should be compensating me in some form, right?

Just like any promotion (which in essence it is), there`ll be small print. I`m sure there`s a caveat somewhere in their T&Cs.

Even if it was dispatched by them within a window that would allow for their 3-5 day non-priority post to reach you by the 24th (ie, date of dispatch 19th of December or earlier), online shopping is still a two-part process, and obviously Amazon have no control over Royal Mail. Just like every Xmas, etailers issue an Xmas deadline which is, frankly, worthless, as it depends entirely on the mail provider to be delivering under normal standards, maybe with a day in lieu if they`re being a little more honest.

There was a whole boo-ha-ha over this in the run up to Xmas as online virgins started flooding trading standards with complaints that their gifts wouldn`t arrive in time for the 25th after being led to believe as much, when really a little common sense should have told them that RM is put under a real strain at that time of year, and and the left hand`s estimation has little or no bearing over the right hand`s practice.

An etailer`s Xmas `guarantee` (or delivery estimate at any time of year, to be honest) is inutile unless they`re hand-delivering their wares themselves.

I had a parcel dispatched on the 1st December, and I`m still waiting for it! :(

This is what has become of Amazon. I had the same issue - ordered an in stock item for guaranteed delivery, and it wasn`t even dispatched until the 29th...

Same thing happened with another item earlier in the month - guaranteed in stock ready for delivery, then an e-mail saying won`t be delivered until March 2008, followed by another saying it had been dispatched...

The only recent delivery without any problems was the pay more guaranteed get it by 1pm the next day delivery. Coincidence?
