Pi**ed off with Amazon at the moment!!
>:( >:( >:( >:(
Placed order with them 6th Dec for a Mr Men DVD set for the kids for Christmas. The site stated `usually dispatched within 24 hours`, and my confirmation gave me a delivery date of 10th-14th Dec.
No delivery by 15th, so telephoned and was told I would receive response within 24 hours. No response so telephoned again today. Estimated delivery date has now been
altered to 24th-31st Dec.
Couldn`t take the risk of it not being here on time, so cancelled it and ordered it from Play instead, who assure me that it will be dispatched tomorrow. (I only ordered from Amazon on the first place because Play were out of stock)
I can`t understand why it has taken them 10 days to let me know that something that should have been sent the next day will, in all likelihood, not be here by Christmas. Obviously, their site`s stock checking facility is not worth the screen space it takes up, so be careful if you order something that needs to be with you by a certain date.
Anybody else had similar problems with them before??
Rant over.
Cheers

RE: Pi**ed off with Amazon at the moment!!
I ordered a CD a few days after its relese earlier this year. The `usually dispatched within 24 hours` on the site turned into a dispatch estamate of a few weeks. I queried this and they said they had problems obtaining stock - when I responeded saying it was a newly released album so unlikely to have stock shortages, all of a sudden the delivery date came forward dramatically. Though normally reliable, they must have occasional glitches in their stock system.

I had a PS2 pre-ordered with them for a couple of weeks, then got the same thing as you, stock now not available until January. Do I want to cancel (which I did). I got one from Game in the end on pre-order.
I`m used Amazon quite a lot this year though (bought a digital camcorder, all in one printer, and router amongst other things), and had no other problems with them.
Mark. :)
RE: Pi**ed off with Amazon at the moment!!
I`ve ordered something for Xmas, I only ordered on the 14th, but the delivery estimate was 16th-17th, and it`s still showing as despatching soon. Very unlikely to meet the estimate, and I want it to arrive while a certain someone is still at school.
RE: Pi**ed off with Amazon at the moment!!
It sounds like there have been supply problems with this particular DVD. Yes I`ve had similar problems with Amazon in the past with their their Xmas delivery dates being indefinately extended hence the "usually" clause in their delivery promise. I usually cancel and try to order elsewhere. Unlike Amazon, Play.com do at least let you know on their site whether something is actually in stock, or on order.

I`ve *twice* been burned by amazon.co.uk with DVD recorders!
Amazon`s stock indication text is a bit of a joke really. A while back, I put in an order for a Liteon 5005 DVD recorder when it said "availability 1-2 weeks". On day 15 (which is more than 2 weeks in my books), no sign of it being dispatched, so I duly cancelled it and bought it *cheaper* at Argos (and got a further 10 quid voucher, which I used for a nice Echostar Freeview box).
In early December, amazon.co.uk listed the Liteon 5045 DVD/HD recorder, which I`ve been chomping at the bit to get - and again it`s the "availability 1-2 weeks". Surely, I thought to myself, they`ll dispatch it within 14 days this time? Well, no, after about 12 days, I get an e-mail to say it`s been extended another 1-2 weeks and the availability shifts to 4-6 weeks on the Web site !
So, amazon.co.uk lose another order from me - I cancelled it there and then and after some Googling/Kelkoo`ing/Dealtime`ing, I found that www.svp.co.uk had it *in stock* and at the *same price* as amazon.co.uk (yes, free postage from SVP as well) - and they dispatched it the day after my order was placed (due to arrive on Monday).
Basically, it means that anything that claims "availability X-Y weeks" is not in stock and may not turn up for many weeks or months (or, I suspect, never turn up at all). amazon.co.uk have dented my confidence in them somewhat, especially when both recorders I ordered are in stock at many other sites and at the same (or in the case of the 5005, lower) prices !

RE: I`ve *twice* been burned by amazon.co.uk with DVD recorders!
Yeah, ordered 4th December, was still showing an expected date of 6-8 December on the 17th, and was in the pending shipping mode, so you can`t even cancel. Shows shipped 17th, but not happy.
RE: I`ve *twice* been burned by amazon.co.uk with DVD recorders!
Phone them up to cancel it.
Can`t remember the number, but a BT Directory Enquiries under Amazon in Slough will do the trick.

RE: I`ve *twice* been burned by amazon.co.uk with DVD recorders!
order your Lite-on LVW- 5045 from
www.cclonline.com
They are only £350 + p&p
They also show how many they have in stock currently online, and`t it`s true!
Order it today, and you`d still get it for Christmas (probably) :-)
13 in stock as of now, 40 more in 2 to 3 days. They`re going like hot cakes...
Better still if you live in Yorkshire or there abouts (i.e. have car can travel), then you can go and pick one up yourself !
